Owner description: The RAF Benevolent Fund is proud and privileged to be the custodian of the new Bomber Command Memorial in central London. The memorial has been built to be modern, yet classical, in Portland stone. At its heart are the bronze sculptures of a Bomber Command aircrew. Within the memorial, the space is open to the sky with an opening designed to allow light to fall directly onto sculptures of the aircrew.

“A moving tribute.”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

Wanted to see this since we saw it unveiled on a tv programme. Well worth it. A beautiful detailed sculpture of a bomber crew, all seven guys with their gear. Surrounded by a stone enclosure with several inscriptions. We were surprised to see a handbook there to look at and a petition for a posthumous award to Robin Gibb who had a big hand in getting the monument planned and erected. Nice to see these papers left for others to see and use, and not stolen as one would expect. A great remembrance monument, just a shame it took so long and that most survivors from that era didn't live to see it.

Despite the crowds and the busy location the tranquility was palpable. A shame they did not complete the roof.

“Mind Blowing”

The whole memorial is most impressive but the bronze statues of the airmen in their flying suits are amazing. We took our 8 year old granddaughter and she spent ages reading all the inscriptions and asking questions about bomber command

Well presented and worth the visit. Brought back old memories of the WW2 blitz and the brave bomber crews who sacrificed so much.
