Owner description: The RAF Benevolent Fund is proud and privileged to be the custodian of the new Bomber Command Memorial in central London. The memorial has been built to be modern, yet classical, in Portland stone. At its heart are the bronze sculptures of a Bomber Command aircrew. Within the memorial, the space is open to the sky with an opening designed to allow light to fall directly onto sculptures of the aircrew.

It took is a little while to find this memorial up in the corner of Green Park, but it was well worth our walk. The bravery and dedication of the crew, depicted as they are just leaving their aircraft from their most recent sortie is so well depicted and is a worthy tribute to these young crews - at last! The monument itself is awe-inspiring and moving, and the vital contribution made to the war effort by the crews of Bomber Command (and their subsequent treatment after the war) makes it feel almost obligatory that we today should go and reflect on their sacrifice. To think that their average age was only 22 is humbling. For Australians, there is the added bonus of the Australian war memorial close by, striking in its simple construction which so cleverly depicts all the home towns of the Australian servicemen.

it was a lovely memorial, made more poignant by the red poppies that had been placed in the boot of one of the sculptures.

It's reverential.

It's moving.

It's art.

It's worth visiting and paying thoughtful respects.

If you are English, or enjoy the freedoms that these brave boys won us... you should see this.

this is very poignant people just stood quietly looking up at the incredible statues , a gent who'd obviously served with people at that time saluted it, which says it all, I think if they collected for this monuments maintance their people would give.

This monument at the end of Piccadilly and situated on the corner of Green Park, is a magnificent memorial to all who gave their lives and those who served in bomber command. It does not cost and can be reached by bus or tube easily. When my grandsons are old enough to understand I will take them to see it. David Dade.
