Description: Not just any other NW1 pubThere's more to The Volunteer than atmospheric interiors. Nestled at the top end of Baker Street, just a stone's throw from the Sherlock Holmes museum and beautiful Regent's Park, this is one central London pub determined to maintain its unique take on character.

On a rainy day in London, we wanted to get in out of the rain and saw this place next to Sherlock Holmes. A friend of mine had told me not to be afraid to step into any pub, so we did. The staff was absolutely gracious and the food a great mixed cuisine and a lot of taps. Great for couples or family, and especially to get in out if the rain.

A nice pub on baker street next to the museum. Reasonable prices. Good service. Good selection of English beverages. Recommended.

Wanting a quick bite for lunch and not wanting to pay Marylebone high street prices we popped up to the Volunteer knowing the menu was cheaper but hoping the standard was as good. We weren't disappointed. Although we had hoped for a pie (the manager was at pains to explain to the non-Brit chef that when there is a craving for pastry even the nicest shepherd's pie won't hit the spot!) the menu was long with lots of variety. We went for the traditional beef burger and the not-so-traditional pork and chorizo burger. Both were very good and came with perfectly crisp and seasoned French fries. The caramelised onion relish on the pork burger was excellent. Service was good and the beer selection is longer than the menu. We'd definitely return in order to sample the salted caramel and chocolate tart!

Very enjoyable family meal. Highlight for me was the courgette and bean soup, might not sound very appetising‎‎ but, trust me it was amazing. Would deffo go again next time I'm in London. Reasonably priced (for London).

The Volunteer is bright and cheerful for a London pub. It's spacious, welcoming and conveniently located near the Baker St tube station and the Sherlock Holmes museum. Service is friendly and attentive. Typical pub fare with modern twists - lovely tarragon fish and chips, creamy carrot and ginger soup. Great place to take a friend to lunch for the £20 lunch special - 2 entrees and 2 pints. Can't beat that in Marylebone!
