Was recommended this by a Dutch colleague. Really broken the mould with this offering. Fab! Could do with kettle in room and not sure what it would be like sharing the fab bed space as I was on my own. For the price it's a great experience.

The Citizen M is a different take on your typical hotel. Small but functional rooms fully controlled from the room's tablet - it is brilliant! So different but really intuitive and great fun! Free wifi and movies just add a cherry on top. Great for a single traveller staying over in London. Great value too.

Worth a visit and I will definitely be back.

Hotel selected by MrJ, as he'd been here before; great choice. Very convenient location in a district that when I lived in London was a little down at heel, but is now very trendy and hip, with lots of restaurants and attractions near by. Easy to get to London Bridge and Borough Market (if only to get Monmouth coffee, but there is so much more) and fairly close to Southwark Underground (Jubilee Line) and walkable to Waterloo tube and rail.
Fantastic foyer / lounge - with self serve food and bar staffed drinks. Easy to add to your room bill with NFC / RFID hotel room cards. Perhaps too easy as we managed to stack up quite an extra bit to our bill! Lovely sofas and seats, books, newspapers, and a very international 'space'. Very modern while being engaging and comfortable. Helpful check in staff - you can do it all yourself but something of a new concept with hotels in London so the staff are readily available to help. If you can follow the onscreen instructions you'll manage just fine.
You need to use your activated room card to get the lift to work which is a good security feature.
Compact and bijoux is perhaps the way to describe the rooms, but in many respects you don't really spend long periods in the room when there is such a great social space in the lobby. Enormous great beds, one side up against the window, so one of you doesn't get a side table though you can perch things in the window ledge. Also means that you have to climb over your companion if you want to get out of bed in the middle of the night as there is NO space around the bed.
Room is pretty much controlled by a Samsung pad from the TV, radio, movies (from mainstream to altogether more niche) and lighting. It's a great concept with all the room info in one place. Internet is free on the Samsung and you can connect to the WiFi on other wireless devices. Would be good to be able to play your own ipod (etc) music through the tv speakers, but it didn't seem to be possible. Nonetheless the technology in the room is impressive, so only a minor gripe.
As another correspondent has noted previously you do really need to quite comfortable with your room companion as the toilet / shower pod is not exactly private. Thereagain you are perhaps not going to be sharing a bed and room with a business associate or acquaintance!
Rooms at the rear overlook a less than glorious Southwark, and the floor we were on was pretty much level with a building site so you'd need to be a bit cautious of your state of undress on opening the blinds on a work day i guess, or the builders may get an eyeful. However you can open the blackout blinds while still leaving the curtain blind closed letting light in but not allowing the outside to see in! Rooms at the rear however are quiet, which is perhaps the trade off. The inside rooms overlook the foyer and face other rooms so there is always the possibility of seeing other guests if you or they are less than careful with the blinds!
Tate Modern is a stones throw away which is great for the gallery with a great art book store as well. The café is ok, though can be a bit lax at times, and certainly not as slick and good value as once it was. The restaurant on the 6th floor has a great view of London which is quite magical at night with the lights of the City as your vista, assuming you don't end up with the view of Southwark on the opposite side of the restaurant. However the food in the restaurant leaves a great deal to be desired for the price, with service of a similar standard. Best avoided - there are better places to eat in the area.

We stay in London very regularly for both business and pleasure and this trip combined both. We wanted to be around the London Bridge area for my commute. This hotel lives up to its billing. Very cool reception / bar / canteen area (and bookshop). Slick self service check in with staff nearby to help. Rooms are like most London hotels, small, but very very well designed. Huge bed for a small room (I'm over 6'3" and I could sleep in any direction on it). Everything in room is controlled by samsung tablet which offers web browsing on the free wifi. Bathroom is small but well designed wet room with large showerhead. 5 minutes walk from Borough Market, London Bridge train station, london bikes very near, handy for tate modern, oxo tower, waterloo station. Highly recommended and we will be back.

Room Tip: Higher the floor the better the view

I was searching for a while around London for a hotel for a business trip; my main requirements being in zone 1, wifi and comfortable but within a budget. I can't recommend this enough.
The location is great - right on Bankside, a sneeze away from the Tate Modern and a wide variety of restaurants.
Well-designed, perfectly proportioned rooms with enough room for an ENORMOUS bed, desk, chair and RAIN SHOWER(!!!)
An amazing lobby/bar which is open 24hrs and such a great place to meet friends in. I will be going back to this even if I'm not staying here in the future.

Room Tip: All the rooms are exactly the same but one looking in (instead of to busy Southwark) would be my tip

booked for a one night city break for £99, which was cheaper than other hotels in the area, yet the hotel is of very high quality.

only complaint is that the 'rain shower' had not been properly cleaned so only half the nozzles worked, however there was another shower head so it didnt really matter.

silent room, huge bed (6ft square), and incredibly comfy nights sleep. great to have free movies and wifi to relax after being out all day. mood lighting and automatic blinds were also a good feature. would definitely recommend, just clean the shower heads!!

Room Tip: windows are by side of bed (great to stargaze while you fall asleep) but go higher up for more priva...
