Another Birthday to be celebrated - an American friend, who lives in Florence, had cause to celebrate whilst staying with us in London last weekend. It had to be the Ritz for Classic Art Decor and snazzy drinks with mouth-watering names, accompanied by tempting little nibbles and gigantic olives.
The hotel itself and all the staff certainly dress to impress but it struck me that the clientèle were slightly less so than on our previous visits, however I am told they had dropped the "Necktie Essential Rule" during this summer's intense heat. If they do re-introduce it when things cool down I am sure they will still keep a supply of ties to cover under-dressed necks!
The cocktails are delicious - they keep you waiting whilst they make and shake them for just long enough for you to have taken in enough salt to be thirsty, so it is an idea to order water too - otherwise they slip down the "little red lane" all too quickly - and even so it seems that a second is essential....so be prepared to shell out £40 per person just for two cocktails ... but somehow they seem worth it!
