David is an excellent & personable host. The house is elegant with interesting furnishings. Our room had blinds, a picture and cushions depicting tulips and overlooked the rear gardens and a magnificent tree high clematis .
There are stunning views from the house over Telegraph Hill.
The ensuite bathroom was large with "his & hers handbasin", lovely deep bath & lashings of hot water.
Excellent cooked breakfast with fresh fruit , cereals etc.
A big bonus is unrestricted parking and easy transport into central London.
We will certainly be returning

This is such a peaceful spot that still bears the stamp of the person who was hostess here for many years. Sadly she is no more but her son David and his partner have taken it over and he is the perfect host. They may upgrade things as time goes on but hopefully her personality will still remain in the house and garden where there is an enormous magnolia grandiflora. Definitely a place to go back to and carry on the conversation over delicious coffee at breakfast and being looked after so attentively.

I have stayed with Anne Marten at 113 Pepys Road anually for the last 10 years. I would not have returned after the first visit if I had not found the most hospitable and frienly host I have ever met. Anne Marten has become a great friend, not only to me, but to many of her guests. The rooms are clean and very comfortable, the food abundant and expertly prepared and served, and she allowes her guests to use the house as their own. One does not have to leave for the day and only return at certain hours, but is welcome to stay in ones room, the front room, the garden, and is treated as a guest, instead of a "paying "guest.
Little Annie, who is Anne's helper is very quick to please, and a pleasure to be with. Since Anne's uexpected death I can only say London willl never be the same for me. I hope little Annie will be able to carry on with Anne Marten's tradition of making lifelong friends out of guests.

We have just returned from a long weekend in London to visit museums and galleries and were lucky enough to choose this B&B as our base. 113 Pepys Road is a beautiful house, full of books and flowers and fascinating objects and Anne is a charming, friendly and welcoming hostess without being in any way overbearing or intrusive. The young lady who works there whose name I didn't catch, is also friendly and extremely helpful.

We stayed in the Tulip Room which is right at the top of the house with a view of the garden. Our friends stayed in the Peony Room which is in the basement. Both rooms were perfectly clean and beautifully decorated and arranged, with firm, comfortable beds. starched white sheets and large luxurious bathrooms. Of the two I preferred the Tulip Room with it's light decor and big windows but the Peony Room is also lovely, with beautiful Chinese panels and a king size bed. The best feature of the Tulip Room is the huge bathtub, which I could have stayed in for hours.

Breakfast was generous and well cooked, fresh fruit, cereal, coffee, juice and eggs and bacon were provided along with toast.

The only disadvantage is that it is a little bit far out. We arrived into Euston and getting to the nearest tube station, New Cross Gate, was quite a complicated journey involving a few changes. Getting back into the centre of London for our sightseeing was not quite as bad so it depends a lot on where you are coming and going from. The B&B is only ten minutes walk from the tube station but up a fairly lengthy hill, so not that great with luggage.

If you want to dine nearby rather than in central London, I can strongly recommend the local Thai restaurant, Chai's Garden, which is located at the bottom of Kitto Road. The food was good and very reasonably priced.

I had the priviledge to stay in Mrs. Marten's home during the summer of 2009, and I couldn't have been more pleased. The accomodations are elegant and comfortable, and Mrs. Marten was a most graceful host. I plan to visit London during my winter vacation and plan to stay with Mrs. Marten once more. There is no need to consider another establishment. This is Britain's finest!

Anne Marten is one astonishing lady. From opening the front door, she welcomed us as old and much loved friends. She is an amazingly wonderful person and regales you with fantastic stories of her fascinating life.
During our 2 night stay, a happy dinner party atmosphere prevailed. Wine and champagne were taken in the drawing room before dinner. The food was amazing and prepared by Anne herself and Annie (her helper). Anne dines with you and is the consumate hostess.

Our room (Tulip Room) was at the very top of the house and looked out over the lovely garden. The en-suite is huge, with 2 wash basins, toilet and bath. The towels were lovely and fluffy. The beds are so comfortable that you may not want to get up!
The Peony Room, that our friends stayed in, has the huge king sized bed. This is on the bottom floor. Again the en-suit is amazing, with stunning chinese panels leading to it. All the bedding is crisp and starched.

The house is full of interseting objects, art, books and beautiful portraits of Anne's late husband's family.

Location wise, you are about 5 miles from the Thames and Centre of London. You are next to a lovely park and can look out over London, it is wonderfully quiet. A taxi to the Chelsea embankment took 20 mins and cost £23. You are within fairly easy reach of "The Sites" by use of the tube. There is plenty of unrestricted parking outside and you are just outside of the Congestion Charge.

We are trying to find an excuse to go back.
