“Disappointment !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

I regret not to be able to write a very positive review, because I had to solve many problems during my stay in this hotel.
Positive points : Comfortable room, well equipped
Nice bathroom
Nice Lobby
Situation, near public transportation
Concierge very helpful and efficient

Negative ones : Internet did not work during four days in the Club Lounge
Never received a newspaper, although I drew the attention of the staff
Room serviced very late, at about 2.30 pm during the week-end
Corner room, but too dark.

Staff (Reservation, front-Office and Guest Relations' Departments) although pleasant and kind need a good training : I needed 9 pages of exchanged e-mails to clarify my reservation and on the spot, could not solve the problem despite many discussions and proofs of the situation; the issue was solved to my entire satisfaction after my departure.
All in all, my stay could have been much better.

The staff were all cheerful, helpful, polite and very obliging, the rooms were very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The breakfast was first class with everything we could wish for we will definitely use this hotel again.

I have stayed here a few times, but the last time it confirmed in my mind that it is the best value hotel in London. Excellent rooms that are well appointed, great room service food, helpful staff, great club floor, and we got a nice upgrade as well....this is a top location, and great hotel. I will be back!!!

We stayed overnight in London to use a Virgin Experience and we wanted somewhere central near to the bus station where we came in and also close to the London Eye and west-end.
We opted for the The City (Crowne Plaza) and it was in a brilliant location for us - about 1/2hr walk to our furthest destination (Haymarket).
I mentioned in the booking that it was our wedding anniversary and they very kindly upgraded us to the 6th floor and gave us access to the Club Lounge which was very, very nice of them.
The room was spacious and well appointed with a flat screen TV, lots of Sky channels and excellent tea/coffee facilities. The bed was soooo comfortable that my wife and I overslept - we were planning a long day in the Natural History Museum! The bathroom was clean and the shower was hot and powerful.
We didn't get chance to make use of the Club Lounge in the evening as we had a show and dinner booked but we did have our breakfast in there and it would be worth the price of the normal upgrade; I would pay for it next time we visit.
All in all, I can't find anything to fault about the hotel, its location or the room we were in.
Thanks to the Crowne Plaza, we had a great weekend in London.

Room Tip: The 6th floor upgrade is definitely worth it.

Hotel is super convenient for families. Literally across the street from Blackfriars Underground station...instant access to the rest of London! Concierge Lee and staff could not have been more friendly or helpful...set us up each day with sightseeing and dinner plans. Large rooms compared to others we saw in Europe. Two double beds and decent storage and seating. Would definitely stay here again.

We're going to remember this hotel for future trips to London.

What we loved:
Location! Steps away from Blackfriars. That means only one change from London Euston, and no changes to Gatwick airport. Straight shot; about 30 min.

Not only is it convenient to public transport, as mentioned in other posts, it is convenient to big tourist attractions, too.

There is also a Barclay's bike depot close at hand. Made for great biking along the Thames on Sunday afternoon.

The rooms were just fine. We had two, and they were slightly different but both fine.

We paid extra to be upgraded to the club services, and got free breakfast and wifi. We did not make use of the lounge during the rest of the day/evening.

The desk staff were great, too. Very friendly and helpful, at check in, during the stay, and at check out.

Tips: definitely take advantage of valet if you bring your car. Way easier than finding parking, and very reasonably priced. (£5 I think.). My husband drove around for sometime looking for parking, because he figured valet would be too costly. He wishes he'd just done this in the first place.

Only negative: elevators. Let's just say that the "close door" button never gets any use, assuming they have one. I wouldn't know. The elevators at this hotel are the kind that require a room key to select a floor. In two days most of the time I couldn't get my key out in time to select a floor before the doors closed and the elevator sped off to somewhere I didn't want to go. it's almost dangerous how quickly those doors close.

Anyway, that's a small detail. We really liked this hotel.
