“Pleasant hotel for a short break”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

This hotel is excellently situated for Blackheath Village and Greenwich. The price is very reasonable for a London hotel in such a location with on-site free parking. we stayed two nights with two very young children and found the room and bathroom very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and always responded well to any questions or requests. On our arrival, quite late in the evening, the security guard went to the rear car park to check if there was space to park (although other's parking meant we were woken at midnight to move our car). The breakfast was good with a good selection at the English breakfast buffet and some good continental selections including mini pastries and charcuterie.

The downsides were few, but we ordered some food from room service in the evening and it was not great food (fish and chips). When we woke relatively late in the morning, our shower was also running tepid, which wasn't what we were expecting and then had a longer than normal queue to get into breakfast. Parking on-site is difficult with few spaces, but it is free.

Overall, the pluses outweighed the minuses and a good sized clean room, with friendly, helpful staff with a good breakfast is, to us, much more important (and difficult to find) than the few negatives mentioned.

Room Tip: Our lower ground room was a bit warm and stuffy.

Dear where_2_nextthen?
thank you for your review, I can see that you generally enjoyed your stay, however I am sorry the room service food was not as it should be. With regards to water, I can inform you that we have been changing over the hotel water boilers over the last 10 months. This project is almost finished, and all final issues are being resolved on a daily basis. I am also looking at how we can find more car parking space at the hotel, currently there is space for 70 cars, but when we are full, this is not enough. However there is parking in the village in both car parks and street parking, but this is chargeable. Once again thank you for your review.

Four of us stayed at the Clarendon Hotel for one night, after seeing Nickleback at the O2 on Sunday 24th November and had an enjoyable stay. I did a lot of research for a hotel up to 2 miles from the O2 and this hotel was in the perfect location, overlooking Greenwich Green, with many Georgian buildings, like the Clarendon Hotel, which is very close to boutique and kitsch shops, Greenwich Arts and Crafts Market and bars and restaurants maybe 30 minutes walk away. There was a great Indian close by, which I recommend - Mogul Tandoori (another review.)
Check-in is 14.00 and although we arrived about half an hour before that time, we only had to wait about half an hour for our room to be ready, making that 14.00. There was a wedding and two special birthdays taking place on that weekend. These events are displayed on a notice board, which I thought was a good idea. The bride and other wedding guests flowed through the reception area freely. I only saw 2 Disabled parking bays at the front, as we needed one bay with a Blue Badge, so we informed the reception, so that they could unlock the 'barrier' on the ground. We enjoyed watching some tv, before booking a taxi to the O2, a couple of miles away (£10.00 by taxi there/back each way. )
All of the staff were very helpful, courteous and obliging. We were asked a few times at breakfast time if we would prefer tea/coffee by different members of the waiting staff. The room was as I expected from the website, basic, but clean. The bed was very comfortable, I must say and the buffet breakfast was very nice, with a good selection of hot and cold food, with tea/coffee pots brought to the table.
The check-out time, however, is too early, I thought at 10.30! 12.00 is a good time to have a leisurely morning to check-out.
All-in-all, a very pleasant one night stay in a Georgian building, overlooking Greenwich Green, with great, quirky shops, bars and restaurants close by and the O2 being only 2 miles away. I would definitely stay again and I was pleased with my choice, after a lot of research, including reading many Tripadvisor reviews!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Greenwich Green, as opposed to the back car park of the hotel, like we did. As...

This hotel is in the perfect place, one minute from Blackheath Village and near Greenwich. Rooms comfortable but need a little updating. Staff helpful and friendly. Saturday night they let us watch Strictly in the lounge with the controller! A really nice stay overall and good value. Would definitely stay again.

Dear Jan B
Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel and also staying in Blackheath Village. We are currently meeting with our designer to come up with a fresh bedroom look, and should start very soon. Strictly seems to hot watch at the moment on Saturday nights, I hope the result was as you wanted it. (my wife is also crazy about the show)

We used the Clarendon for our wedding venue and many of our guests and ourselves stayed for the wedding weekend.

The rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious for the most part. The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful from the wedding organisers to the bar staff.

It was very important to us that our families were looked after and made to feel welcome which the Clarendon did exceptionally well.

Our wedding day far exceeded our expectations. It was blissful. The function room was decorated immaculately and again the staff were attentive and friendly.

Thank you so much to everyone at the Clarendon! (Gorgeous setting too).

Booked in for one night and glad it wasn't much longer Absolutely nothing wrong as a general hotel, but the room we had was so small, single beds comfortable but narrow, room was shabby ,the loo almost touched the bathroom door and bathroom poorly decorated. That said , the staff were welcoming , pleasant and attentive ,although with only one behind the reception in the morning there was a queue of people waiting for service. Excellent breakfast, one of the best we have had, good service and the hotel is in a nice area ,buses easy to get but trains require a walk into Blackheath if not using car. As said hotel fine but not for longer than a night or two.

Room Tip: We were on 1st floor and overlooking rear car park , perhaps front rooms are better

Have just stayed at the Clarendon as it was great location for our visit to The Woolwich Artillary Barracks for a regimental Dinner. My daughter wife and i had a room with a large queen double and 2 single beds. Clean warm and all the usual facilities. The bar area was clean and tidy and the outer lounge for the quieter clientel was clean and spacious. We did not have an evening meal as we were going out for Dinner however we had a full English breakfast which was well cooked and hot even if it was buffet style. There were 2 car parks at the hotel one at the front and one at the rear and there appeared to be plenty of room and this was Sat/Sun.the hotel called a taxi on 2 occassions for us and at first i was a bit suspicious of the choice as they were private hire however the prices were excellent value and i guarantee that we will use this hotel again. Thanks to all the staff who were more than helpfull

Room Tip: Rooms for 3 or 4 are large enough if like us you only use the rooms for sleeping and dressing

Dear Jaw2
Thank you for your review, and that you enjoyed the hotel, bars and breakfast. I am sure you also enjoyed your dinner at the Woolwich Army Barracks, it is such a splendid building (Georgian as the hotel) the army building has the longest Georgian facade in England. We are also treated in Blackheath to the Kings Troop horses who ride through Blackheath some days.
Once again thank you for your review and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We stayed here for 1 night (Saturday), arrived mid morning, parked our car in their car park, and ordered a pot of tea and coffee (after registering our vehicle) while we waited for friends to arrive. Polite and helpful receptionist and drinks arrived shortly without fuss by a smartly turned out waiter.

In reception was a notice to warn guests that the hotel was extra busy (wedding) and they were opening breakfast earlier in the morning because of this.

We arrived back late evening and as expected the bar was heaving with wedding guests but we were still able to find a seat and enjoyed a nightcap. Tables were cleared very quickly as guests left the lounge.

We booked the 'crown' room as we were treating ourselves. Lovely spacious room with a king sized bed with 4 chunky pillows, tea & coffee facilities, TV, phone and bathroom very clean which may be recently refurbished.
We heard people talking outside in the rear car park which is how we discovered the windows are single glazed, however the room was very warm. The people talking outside disappeared so it went quiet but it was late by the time we went to bed, this may be an issue if you cannot sleep unless is absolutely silent!

Breakfast as we expected was very busy, however the tables were quickly and quietly turned around and the breakfast buffet was constantly being replenished with fresh foods. Full English breakfast was really well cooked, cereals, juice and small amount of fruit also available.

Hotel is 5 minute walk from Blackheath railway station (about 10/15 minutes to Charring Cross Station)

Hotel fronts onto Blackheath common which leads onto Greenwich park with the observatory etc.
Greenwich village/Cutty Sark etc is about 1 mile down the hill from the hotel.
Tourist boat runs hourly from Greenwich village all the way up to Westminster.
Bars, restaurants and shops are just around the corner from the hotel (Blackheath village)

Hotel was really easy to find, just off of the A2 from the M25

We will definitely use this hotel again, it is so well situated and the hotel and the standard of service provided excellent!
