4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here for the night before my sons run to Brighton, all the staff were very helpful and the hotel was clean the breakfast was entirely edible. A nice view of the garden from the dining room. It was helpful having free Wfi.

Thnak you for your review, the hotel has many events start here like your London to Brigton, we also have London to Paris bike rides, I belive this is because we are so close to Greenwich 0:00 meantime - and Blackheath is a nice setting to start from. Hope your son had a good run and I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the hotel.

Had to do a quick trip down to London during the Olympics but found the hotel excellent value. Lift and stairs to find our room with a not very good view but the room was comfortable and clean. Friendly bar. Among the last for breakfast which had been available from 5-30am but dining room was still well set and food all freshly cooked, one of the best 'Full English' we have had with plenty of tea or coffee as well.

From the lovely staff to the excellent rooms and food it all contributed to a great short break. This traditional hotel is in a great location in Blackheath Village overlooking the heath and is ideal for visiting all the excellent locations in Greenwich.

Stayed at the Clarendon for a night as we were attending a wedding nearby...Parking was a nightmare and ended up having to park about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, because it was so busy as a large party were staying there because of a function...The 1st room we were given wasn't suitable as we had paid a premium price and the room was really dated with 70's furnishings..We simply ask for an alternative room and were accommodated straight away. This room was much better..It was on the lower floor over looking the garden at the rear of the hotel, although these furnishings were probably from the 80's (slightly more modern)...The decor was fresh though and the beds clean and comfortable and it was very quiet as we were at the rear of the property... Breakfast in the morning I would have to describe as a bit chaotic because so many people were staying at the hotel..But having had to queue outside the dining area for at least 10 minutes prior to breakfast, it was worth waiting for as good selection and plenty of it.. Prices in the bar are very reasonable I would have to say, for a London hotel, but the prices of the rooms are premium and you dont get what you would expect for these sort of prices.. All in all I wouldn't stay at the Clarendon again if another hotel was available, but obviously it was quite popular because it was so full..Don't think it was me just being picky as I did hear 1 or 2 comments from other guests who thought the same as me!!! Staff were very pleasant and helpful even when you could see it was so busy, so they were very good all round... My grades for the hotel are purely based on the 2nd room we were given, as if it for the 1st room, would have scored very badly indeed..

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the lower floor overlooking the gardens

Thank you for your review, the hotel has 178 rooms with rooms in the original Georgian section and more rooms in newer wings at the rear. Some of the Georgian rooms have traditional fittings, which often complement the rooms, the newer wings were refrubished 3 years ago with decor and furniture. Decor can soon date, and we will keep a close eye on this. The hotel does get busy, parking is not the best, the hotel has front and rear car parks, and we are trying to identify more parking areas. The hotel is also well serviced by direct trains from London, the Jubilee line, the DLR and buses. London is generally not great for parking.
I am also sorry that you had to wait for breakfast. We insist on re-setting clean tables with crisp linen etc. Once again thanks you for your review.

On a planning a three day break to the Greenwich and Blackheath area of East London we stumbled accross the Clarendon Hotel. We were taking a short family break to explore a part of London we didn't know very well.
On arrival there were spaces in the free on site car-park and although we early the staff were friendly and welcoming and happily allowed us to leave the car and use the cloakrooms to freshen up.
The hotel is decorated in a country house style and was being freshened up during our stay. Our room was light and airy with a great corner window overlooking the large garden. Breakfast was a good quality buffet, again with friendly and attentive staff with tea and coffee on hand.
The hotel was a perfect base to explore Greenwich and we took in The Maritme Museum, Cutty Sark and even had an insight into the recently finished 2012 games equestrian arena.
Of all the public rooms the bar was the least inspiring but did serve good local ales. All in all a pleasant hotel well situated and well worth a walk into the village and across the heath to Greenwich Park.

Situated in a beautiful village, the Clarendon is an ok hotel, rooms are a bit shabby, and so is breakfast, and I would say a little over priced, parking is also a problem, so aim to get here for about 9am even though check in is at 2, just let the staff no you are staying and have parked up, and then just go out all day and enjoy your visit.. Nether or less, if you can overlook the hotel as just somewhere to stay, black Heath it self is beautiful, small village in an island shape, the village supports some fantastic restaurants from home made pizzas to fantastic Indian restaurants, cocktail bars to your normal pubs., the good thing about this destination is that the train station is about 2minutes away from the hotel, it takes approx 54 mins to get into Oxford street, if you want to go to the city for the shopping experience, I would highly recommend eating in blackheath village itself, recommending, zero degrees for pizzas and home brewed ales or the taste of raj for a curry. Would I stop here again. Absolutely. this is by far one of our favourite destinations in London, we have stopped here about 20 times, forget the hotel as such, and just take in the beauty.

Room Tip: Rooms are pretty standard, and not the cleanest. We are never in the room long enough to care. As we...

I haven't actually stayed in The Clarendon, but living close to Blackheath (about 2 miles) I often dine out there. There's not many places to get a decent roast, one of my favourite meals, but a friend recommended The Clarendon. Although the decor in the dining room was a little dated, a piano tinkling in the background did give a pleasant setting to our lunch. I had fresh melon to start (didn't want to ruin my appetite before the main event!) followed by as much lamb, beef, turkey and pork that could be crammed onto my plate. I was in control of serving my own 'trimmings' (oh dear!) which included my favourite, cauliflower cheese. All washed down by a bottle of Malbec. I highly recommend this on a Sunday. The service was excellent and the prices reasonable. Just get there early as it stops at 2pm I believe.
