We stayed at the Lynton for three nights and were quite happy there. It is honest, friendly and clean just as stated on their website. As others have commented, the bathrooms are small, but we have been in other hotels with equally small bathrooms. The shower was large enough for easy use.
Our room, on the ground floor, was large in comparison with other budget hotels in London, and very comfortable. The walk from Victoria railway station was not too daunting for a pair of 60+ folks with three rolling suitcases.
The full English breakfast was good, as was the service. Yes, it was a pretty standard FEB, but I have never had a bad FEB. At the Lynton, it is nicely cooked to order.
Mark was an invaluable help, and as an ex-cabbie. he was a font of information for getting around London. He pointed us to the nearest place for an Oyster card, the correct bus to get to Covent Garden, a popular nearby pub for our last meal in London, and advised us to walk up Ebury to St James Park instead of taking the bus or tube. The upside of that advice was that we arrived in front of Buckingham Palace just in time for the changing of the guard. Mark also let us use his computer to print our boarding passes for our departure. When we left, Mark took a moment during breakfast service to come up to see us off. If his brother Simon is half as nice, you can't go wrong at the Lynton Hotel as long as you understand up front that it is inexpensive (for London) and go in with reasonable expectations. I think some of the critical reviews had to be from overly picky or negative people.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Lynton B&B Hotel is a small friendly centrally positioned bed and breakfast in the centre of London, sandwiched between the areas of Belgravia, Westminster (home to the Houses of Parliament ) and Pimilico, a very safe neighbourhood. The West End, Soho, Vauxhall Cross area, Oxford Street with its shops and most of London’s tourist attractions are all nearby. Within our vicinity you will find pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, post office and ATMs just to make your stay easier. The location is also a transport hub with Victoria offering the underground, main line trains, and coaches and of course is a terminus for many of London’s famous red buses. Gatwick Airport is just 35 minutes away with the Gatwick express and all of London’s major airports can be reached by coach or tube. We offer basic amenities; our rooms are simple, small and clean. Most rooms have small en-suite facilities, safes and a few rooms share facilities on the staircase. Each room has digital television just in case you become bored with visiting all that London has to offer, kettle, tea and coffee and we can provide hairdryers and irons on request. We also serve a full English breakfast and offer free WIFI. The hotel is run by me and my brother Simon, both born within 10 minutes from our location. ... more less
