This was our second stay at the hotel, and once again we were very content. Our room seemed to have been recently redecorated. Especially the very comfortable shower was a nice surprise. Just one suggestion: It would be nice to have a few more channels on TV. My son forgot his beloved toy rabbit when we left. The staff were extremely helpful doing their best to send it home. Many thanks and see you soon!!

My husband and teenage son stayed in room 206 (Queen double and double sofa bed). I booked this through Expedia and it turned out to be cheaper than staying at the local Premier Inn ... £129 including buffet breakfast! bargain. We were not disappointed by what we received. It isn't as plush as other 4* Novotels that we have stayed in previously in London, but it fairs well with the competition. A few tips for other travellers ... request a quiet room (noisy road at the front of the hotel) and try and get to breakfast before 9 at peak times, otherwise you will have to queue :( Also minimal toiletries supplied (just shower gel and soap) so take your own extra bits.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel quieter.

This is the second time we have stayed in this particular hotel, it is extremely convenient for both The Globe (my daughter and I were going to see a Sunday matinee of The Tempest) and Tate Modern. As we arrived early our room was not ready, but the receptionist told my husband that it would be ready by 2pm and told us we could leave our luggage if required. The family room was clean and comfortable, the sofa bed my daughter slept on was said to be very good. Breakfast was up to Novotel's usual standard and set us up well for the rest of the day. All in all, this is an ideal base for attractions in the Southwark area and also St Paul's.

Another fine Novotel property. Busy when we were there but they seemed to cope. Popular with European travellers.

Great location close to London Bridge Station, Borough Market and South Bank.

Kids loved the magic glass panels between the bath and bed.

Average value for money.

One tip - if travelling to Covent Garden use the RV1 bus - much easier than the tube which was recommended by the staff and required one or two changes

This is a purpose built hotel on the South Bank within walking distance of Tower Bridge. Upon entering the hotel, you are greeted by a clean, spacious lobby. The staff are generally efficient and friendly. We didn't see any who were British; almost all appear to be East European. The elevator, hallways and rooms are VERY small, even by London standards and I have to say that the poor quality of the carpet in the hallways gave us serious pause when we stepped off the elevator to go to our rooms. The room furnishings are on the cheap side - think two steps down from IKEA. The beds were reasonably comfortable, though not up to the standard of a 4 star hotel. The shower in our room leaked whenever someone took a shower. The building staff tried to remedy the problem, but weren't able to, so every shower meant having a bunch of towels on the floor to sop up the water. On the plus side, we had great views of The Shard from our windows.

I booked well over a month in advance and choose the hotel largely because it offers adjoining rooms, which I requested when I booked the rooms. When we checked in, I was told that none were available. Apparently, they don't reserve adjoining rooms. They simply book guests without regard to such requests and if such rooms happen to be available when you check in, you'll get them. That's a rather irritating policy since it was clear that some guests were placed in adjoining rooms who had no interest in using the adjoining feature. After some fuss, we did get rooms that were next to each other, but this meant leaving our kids in a room without an adjoining door, which was not ideal and caused us some worry and a fair amount of annoyance.

Despite these drawbacks, the hotel does have significant positives. First, the staff is generally efficient and responsive. The on site restaurant offers a very good full English breakfast buffet for 16 pounds per adult (kids eat free), though the dinner buffet was of poor quality. And location of the hotel is very good. The London Bridge tube stop is less than 5 minutes walk and the walk to Tower Bridge is about 15 minutes and takes you through some of the nicer areas along the Thames. The Tate Modern and several other attractions are within walking distance.

Truthfully, I can't say that this will be our first choice of hotel when we return to London, but we'll consider it if the price is exceptionally good. I tend to like a higher standard of hotel than this offers, but we spent most of our time out enjoying the sites of London and very little in the rooms, so it turned out to be better than the first impression suggested it would.

Many thanks for your comments. We appreciate all your feedback and are glad you overall enjoyed your stay and enjoyed your view of the Shard. Whilst we do try to accommodate all guest requests for rooms, we are limited on the number which are interconnecting. Thank you again for your review and I hope we can welcome you back to the Novotel London City South on your next visit to London.

We booked a couples weekend away fri - sun, we were greeted by lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Our room was somewhat disappointing, grotty damp on the bathroom roof, a bathroom door that wouldn't close, awful artwork, dirty kettle, drainage problems with the shower which flooded the bathroom with every shower taken. The restaurant was fantastic, breakfast buffet was tasty and fresh, and dinner was delicious!
