Having an excellent time here.

Room is very modern and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.
Free Wifi is provided, but not very fast (faster internet is available for a price).

Perfect location for me as offices were around the corner, London Bridge is a 5 minute walk away.

Would come here again. Stayed on the 6th floor, room looked out on The Shard. Free gym & Sauna.

We stayed at Novotel London City South for 2 nights 21st to 23rd June 2013. Check-in was quick and the staff were very polite and helpful throughout our stay. Our room was on the 1st floor and looked out over a car park which did not present us with any noise issues. We could hear the staff occasionally congregating at the designated smoking point below our window but it was not an issue. Other members of our party had a room across the corridor and they looked out over a side street where they could hear occasional traffic but not bad to say we were in the middle of London!

The rooms were clean and well appointed with all the usual extras that come with a 4* rating. There were some issues however. The mini bar refrigerator did not seem to chill drinks down and the clothes hanging space was a little tight, as was the bathroom. The toilet was in a separate cubical with no sink so you had to walk around to the bathroom to use that sink anyway which seemed a bit of a peculiar design layout. We had the double sofa bed set out in our room so space was on the tight side although we saw an identical room with the sofa bed folded away and it seemed to have plenty of space. I found the bed comfortable as the mattress was on the firm side. Some of our party found the mattresses a little too firm though.

The choice we had for breakfast was very good. They offer the full range from fruit, cereal, cold meats and continental cheese & pastries to the Full English, all buffet style. Service was a little slow to be seated at peak time.

We found the location of the hotel ideal for exploring the South Bank, Bank Side, Tate Modern, St Pauls and Borough Market. There is so much more to see too in the vibrant neighbourhood of Borough/Southwark. Public transport into the rest of London is well served from here too, With plenty of busses and London Bridge Station around the corner.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a triple room. This hotel is in a decent location, no complaints really about the location. You are not has out in the weeds as you think, as you can get just about any where in the city easily and several of the hop on and off bus routes are in the vicinity of this hotel. A little tip for Americans...the road this hotel is on is pronounced "Suffolk"...we said it wrong the whole time and no one except our hop on and off bus driver corrected us.

Now, on to the hotel. The lobby is nice and staff helpful. The rooms and hallways need work. They seemed to concentrate their efforts on the appearance of the common areas. I think they have two levels of rooms here maybe (superior and deluxe I think). We had a superior room and it was anything but. It was passable. It wasn't dirty or anything, it just wasn't more. It wasn't the type of room you would march down to the front desk over and demand a new room. Its the kind of place you tell yourself it's only for a couple of nights, at least it's not in a shady neighborhood and my stuff won't get stolen. All positive things, so I feel I can't really complain considering I didn't want to pay extra to stay at another type of property. I would put this hotel on the level of a fairly decent Comfort Inn...nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. The hallways are a bit dinged up/dark and the carpets in the rooms could use a good deep cleaning, but it was as I said, passable.

The thing that irritated me most about the hotel was the Internet. They say they have internet access and WiFi and this technically isn't a lie. You have access to free WiFi in the lobby only. You have access to computers in the lobby but you can only log on for free for 20 mins. In this day and age you just assume a hotel would have free WiFi (all of our Paris and Barcelona hotels did), but this was definitely not the case and we clearly didn't ask the exact right questions when we booked this hotel through a travel agency.

I had stayed at another Novotel property in Brussels and London Tower Hill and had a good experience. I assumed all of them were kind of created equal (like Hampton Inns in the States). Not the case unfortunately, so I can't really say I recommend this hotel for tourists. As a tourist you rely heavily on the Internet to plan your day out and not having free WiFi in the room is just a huge inconvenience. If visiting London, I would choose a different property. There are many other options available.

FYI--I don't recommend the on site restaurant. The service was great (friendly staff), but the food wasn't good. Also, because of the sporadic Internet issues at the hotel (there was an outage while we were there), the hotel was unable to accept/process credit card payments, so we had to go to the first desk and activate in-room charges to pay for our meal at the restaurant (their credit card machines worked I guess...) This happened the first night of our stay. We never went back to the restaurant, not even for breakfast.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Deluxe option...it might be a better.

The Hotel was clean and quiet, a little paint would not go amiss but is was acceptable. Location for London and all the attractions is very good. Our room faced the main road but the noise did not disturb us at all, the windows blocked out all the noise.

Bed was comfy and room clean and tidy. The shower was powerful and stayed hot throughout.

When going for breakfast you had to wait to be seated, you are left standing for quite a while and some staff do not even acknowledge you are there. Even to tell us that the staff member seating the guests would be there in a mo would have sufficed. Tea was weak and the coffee removed the skin on your tongue it was that strong!! Food was ok, plenty of variety and satisfactory standard.

When ordering a drink at the bar at night you are again left waiting. The bar staff would not acknowledged you until it was your turn to be served, again a comment to say they will be with you soon would have helped, but you are totally ignored until it is your turn.

We were also told different message in regard to the food. We were told that sandwiches only were available after a certain time, but an hour later, other guests were able to order hot food other than the items that we were told were available!!

Reception staff were friendly and helpful and WiFi was freely available in the reception area.

On the whole, despite the problems, I would consider returning.

Room Tip: Top floor has the best views.

Was there on a business trip. Room awful, Tatty, old, bathroom grubby, shower leaked all over the small bathroom floor. Loo separate just inside the main door in a tiny room. Towels thin and worn, must be years old. Pillows rock hard. Sparce toiletries. Price list for mini bar there but only water in mini bar. One bottle of water someone had drunk out of it. (Yuck) No wifi in rooms. NOT a 4 star room.

Breakfast was OK, all staff that I came across were very nice.

I know some rooms have been refurbed, the others need sorting quickly!!!

Room Tip: Accept nothing less than a refurbed room.
