We went to the 202 Upper St branch. Nice coffee, free WiFi, good selection of nice looking cakes, bread etc. Tables and chairs a bit basic/uncomfortable near the front: the sofas etc in the back filled up with chattering mothers(?) and a bit loud. One toilet. A cluster of usual pretentious/twee signs and sayings dangling about, mostly about how great cakes and bread are. Also I couldnt smell freshly baked bread even inside the shop!! Coffee cups big but with stupid little handles you can't get your finger through.

What can I say that hasn't already been said, I love this place and so does most of islington. Croissants, cakes and coffee are as good as youre going to get this side of the river.

Only downside is the staff sometimes seem to panick when the place fills out and service suffers a little but that's my only gripe.!

I work very near the second one which opened on Upper Street about 3 or 4 years ago. Their notice always boasts that "The smell of freshly baked bread is free!" - which is ridiculous given that I pass it every day on my way to an from work and have never smelt freshly baked bread (whereas I do at the nearby Tesco and Sainsbury) and when I asked about their ovens, I was told that they had none on the premises other than a small one for warming things up like pizza slices!

Their cakes look like the genuine articles, but I find them strangely unsatisfying.

But the biggest surprise was the poor quality of both the coffee and the croissants. The Cote Brasserie over the road (in Islington Green) does better of both, and the Giraffe in Essex Road do excellent coffee at almost half the price. Their hot chocolate is not much good, unless you like a nutty under taste. Unfortunately, this is not alone in being a promising-looking but very disappointing place for coffee and croissants - eg Carluccio, Tinderbox both of which went downhill a few years ago.

Euphonium bakery is an upper street classic. I am still not sure who defines who - upper st or cafes like this one, but its def worth a visit to see trendy yummy mummy culture in full swing. You can choose from freshly baked sandwiches, baguettes and a whole array of yummy cakes. Coffee is fairly average and too big... Go for a delicious tea pig tea! I am always a bit disappointed by the filling in the sandwiches for the amount of money you pay, but maybe it's worth it to experience upper st in full swing?

Sorry - the quality to the tea was not up to par, and so the whole experience was under par. What a shame.
