Site of Sir Richard Childs Palladium Mansion which later was demolished to pay off debts leaving an extensive landscape of lakes and forest. It can be accessed from WAnstead Park Avenue , Northumberland Avenue or Overton Avenue. The park is popular with walkers , joggers and dog walkers. Lots of wild life including Herons and Cormorants and fishing is allowed in some of the lakes. If you want a relaxing day out in the country this is the place for you but please leave only your footsteps behind you.

“Hidden Delight”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

I was born about three or four miles from Wanstead Park. Never visited as a kid, except the one time my dad had to 'see a man about a dog' in a pub on Wanstead Flats in the early 70s.
So the page in a recently acquired walk book featuring a five mile stroll around Wanstead had given rise to mixed feelings given my perceptions of the area.
So I was pleasantly surprised that, having parked in East End suburbia I was confronted by a classic Georgian church and then a stroll in the countryside, just yards from the North Circular Road. If you follow the River Roding the roar of traffic can still be heard, whilst you stroll in a pastoral glade past streams, river banks and lakes. Once away from the riverside one could actually be in the midst of the country, like an East End version of Hampstead Heath.

If you have never been then go, it really is worth a look!
