“Not up to the hype”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

Based on awards, it should be amazing. There are four Matilda leads, and maybe ours just didn't have the pipes. I'm not the first to rush to a musical, so maybe people who love show tunes will disagree with me, but it was not a transforming performance, and the story seems quite shortened at the end.

The kids liked it OK. The sets and supporting cast was very good.

“A game of two halves!”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

The problem was that the audience were not invited to feel sympathy with the children in the first half, so it was difficult to care; especially as the music and choreography were repetitive and the stereotyping of the parents unmissable. The second half was better ...with better music. The musical relied very heavily on Matilda and Miss Trunchbull's performances and, mright at the back, it was impossible to pick up facial expression. As an avid fan of the book I felt short~changed. The tickets were bought

“Best musical ever”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Certainly the best I've seen and great for kids or adults.
We saw the original production at the RSC and in the West End.
It would be great to get a hat-trick and see the Broadway production with Bertie back as Miss Trunchbull.
See it whilst you can!
