If you go to the theatre itself between 8 and 8:30am you will probably be one of the first 8 people in line. At 10am the theatre box office opens and the first 8 people in line get the so called 'day seat tickets' which are only 5 pounds!
I was there at 8:30 (on december 30th) and I was the first person to come. At around 9:15 the 8th person arrived.
I sat in the upper circle on row K but was able to see to much more than the people on rows D-J.
The people in the musical were amazing in their acting and singing, and the decor alone is worth going there! The greatest musical I've ever been to! Really something to go to if you want to go to a musical during your stay in London!
