“Great value and great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2010

Located opposite Kings Cross station the hotel sits amongst a collection of budget hotels. Based on stays at other hotels in the area and other reviews, I would suggest this is one of the better ones.

Greeted enthusisatically by the owner, check-in was efficient and pleasant.

The room was a bit small - but perfectly adequate. The ensuite appeared to have been built into the original wardrobe! However, it was clean and everything worked. Plenty of hot water and powerful shower.

Stairs are a little narrow - I'd suggest taking a soft bag rather than a large suitcase!

Breakfast is downstairs and there is a good choice, although one of the other residents had a little trouble communicating with the staff. His request for bread as a continental option being turned down, however he could have toast as that was on the board. My choice of cooked breakfast was on the board so I had no problem - and it was very good.

Overall, recommended as a budget hotel for a visit to London for a short stay.

If you are staying in London and your budget is limited and you can bear the impersonal atmosphere and lack of character try this. For the same price like most of the b&b in central London you have this near to St. Pancras Station (good area), not far from the main attractions and nicely situated for public transport
The staff are friendly and helpful but not the women when you are having breakfast. Breakfast is adequate and included in the price . B&Bs in central London are very expensive compared to the quality. Our room was a bit poky but for a short stay that was tolerable. The building is noisy at night and early in the morning when the guests use the stairs, because they are made of wood.
Overall, more or less for the price.

Great location, literally 1 minute from kings cross station, so getting around is easy.

We stayed in share bathroom which was ok& clean.

Staff friendly, Silvia is lovely, brekky was included and was great.

Now the poor bits:
Beds were firm, pillows thin.

Generally very good if your on a tight budget!

I've been searching for a long time to a cheap and clean hotel, which isn't easy to find in London I stayed at the McDonald Hotel for 3 nights, with a friend. And we were very happy with our choice:

Positive:
- Breakfast: if you don't like the English breakfast, you can always choose for cornflakes or muesli.
- The rooms, showers and toilets were cleaned every morning.
- We could leave our luggage (for free) at the reception before booking in, and after booking out.
- Good location: it's very close to St. Pancras (Eurostar) and to Kings Cross' underground.
- It's one of the only cheap hotels we could find that had good reviews, because the others in the same price class are mostly dirty.
- The staff was friendly.

Negative:
- The walls are quite tin, so sometimes you could hear the television of the room next to yours.
- We had a room at the third floor, for us it wasn't a problem, but maybe for older people it is.
- No luxury, but we didn't expect that.

Conclusion:
It's a simple but clean and cheap Hotel, all the basics are available in your room. We really enjoyed our stay at the McDonald hotel. We haven't had any problems during our stay. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends, and if I ever visit London again, I definitely know where I'm going to stay ;-)

We did not enjoy our stay at the Macdonald Hotel. The room was very small, badly outdated, and not comfortable. It seems to be a destination for large groups of students to camp out and stay up late gossiping, loudly. The hallways are extremely narrow and we felt packed into the space. Additionally, the toilets did not flush correctly ... which was disgusting.

Dear travelers, keep on looking: there are better places out there at the same price point and location!

My teenage son and I stayed at the Macdonald B&B for 3 nights.
The location is excellent! Kings Cross is only about 100 meters (you can see it from the front door) but yet the hotel is quiet.
The twin room with ensuite washroom was super clean and a good size for London. The English breakfast was also very good and a great start for a day of sightseeing and walking. Staff was friendly and helpful and having free WIFI (just ask for the code) came in handy in planning our day.
The only downside is that there is no lift so you have to lug your luggage up the stairs, but, I think the other B&Bs in the area also do not have a lift.
I normally like to stay on the East side of London but will definately consider staying at the Macdonalds again and recommended to others.

My family enjoyed two great stays here this summer. The owners are very friendly and helpful. It was wonderful to find such a child friendly B&B. The rooms are a standard size for London's B&B's and the rooms are kept clean and tidy every day. The rooms were quiet, especially the basement room that we stayed in. This is a great place for the budget traveler to stay in, especially someone that needs easy access to Kings Cross train station!
