Attraction details
Owner description: The Savoy Theatre is currently home to Gypsy which stars Imelda Staunton, Lara Pulver and Peter Davison. Don't miss Gypsy, one of the greatest ever Broadway musicals, as it transfers to the West End following its sell-out, rapturously acclaimed five-star run at Chichester Festival Theatre. Imelda Staunton delivers a 'knock-out performance' (The Independent) as Momma Rose in Jonathan Kent's 'dazzling revival' (Mail on Sunday), alongside Lara Pulver, who reprises her 'stunning' (The Independent) role as Louise. They'll be joined by Peter Davison as Herb, in this gloriously entertaining musical fable that features 'showstopping' (Mail on Sunday) choreography from Stephen Mear. Based on the true life memoirs of legendary burlesque entertainer, Gypsy Rose Lee, it tells the tale of Momma Rose and her two daughters, Baby June and Louise, trekking across America in their family vaudeville act. But times are changing, audiences are expecting more, and the two girls have their own ambitions in mind. The rise of burlesque is upon them, and nothing will ever be the same again for Momma Rose. With lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurents and music by Jule Styne, this moving and 'scintillating' (The Times) production of Gypsy is the first to be seen in London for 40 years.

“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels ”
Reviewed May 6, 2014 via mobile

We went to see this fantastic show yesterday and I can honestly say that it was the best acting I have ever seen! The cast are real pros! Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is very funny, feel good show, I recomend everyone to see it! I will probably go again! Dress circle row C seats 6-7 had a very good view! I would recomend to get as close as possible as the facial expressions of the cast are not to be missed! The Savoy theatre itself is one of the nicest one too, very clean and even luxurious.

Just to let you know, we went to The Bodyguard just a few weeks ago and the performance of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is much higher quality, cast is way way better.

“Dirty Rotten Fun”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

Lovely small theatre, great fun evening, dancing singing and some dirty humour. Robert Linsay as the lead owned the stage Rufus Hound was amusing as the trainee scoundrel. May be too rude for under 16s but my 14 year old son loved it!

“The G&S "Holy of Holies," now Presenting Everything Else”
Reviewed May 4, 2014 via mobile

Built originally in the 1880's as the showcase for G&S, the Savoy has been recently refurbished, and has become one of the jewels of London theatre. Every genre of play is presented, but musical comedy is in its DNA. We attended the performance of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," which we found delightful, certainly not profound, but thoroughly entertaining. On the occasion that there is a G&S production at the Savoy, it should not be missed. A few years ago, we saw a performance of the Mikado, which was unforgettable. Whatever the production, the Savoy is a delightful venue. The only shortcoming is the length of the narrow staircases in and out. Not suitable for those with limited physical abilities, but you won't have to go to the gym after a day going into and coming out of the Savoy.

“Great theatre - the play and the location”
Reviewed May 3, 2014

This is a great theatre. Well maintained and decorated. We found all the staff very pleasant and welcoming. 'Dirty rotten Scoundrels' was a very amusing musical although you will not be humming many of the songs after the play. A most enjoyable evening's entertainment and you can get a taxi or bus afterwards with ease.

“Best Show For A Long Time”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

Great fun, Robert Lindsay and Rufus Hound very funny. Very good light hearted show. Very expensive wine in the interval! Enjoyed pre Matinee lunch at the Savoy Grill recommended.

Theatre is down a number of stairs, it is quite a small intimate theatre.
