“Underground Theatre”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

This is a small underground Victorian Theatre; compact and bijou. We saw Patrick Barlow's adaptation of John Buchan's classic The 39 Steps which turned out to be a laugh-out-loud comedy romp. It was acted by an excellent cast of four who doubled up when required to provide a multitude of characters.

“Absolute Guff”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

My wife and I read some mixed reviews about this show but decided to give it a go. Unfortunately I have to agree with the bad ones. It was an absolute waste of time and money. To the actors credit they were trying to do the best they could with the crap props and unfunny one liners which got a few titters from people desperately looking for some sort of humour. We walked out half way through!! 3 little words for you.........

......Just don't go

“Good night out.”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

We got our tickets on Last Minute.com for £25 each, dress circle. It was a Thursday night and the theatre was full but not packed. This is a small and beautiful theatre, we saw 39 Steps, which was great fun and we recommend. Great views of the stage where we were sat and good seat size, I did not feel squished (I am a tall, large lady).
Drinks were reasonable, £12 for a Rose Wine, beer and a tonic water. Friendly staff, would see another show here if one came up.

“A beautiful intimate theatre”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Saw 39 Steps here a week or so ago and really enjoyed the play, the theatre and the atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly and the whole evening was good fun. Can recommend the play wholeheartedly. It was a real pleasure to visit this old London theatre and imagine the glamorous times of the Victorian era. Well done the Criterion!

“Unspoilt, olde worlde theatre; enjoyable 39 Steps”
Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

Wow surely the most enviable location in all of theatreland! Yet once inside it's quaint, cosy and unchanged in decades. The 39 steps was performed at a good pace, making fine use of the whole stage and humorous throughout. Kept very true to the 1935 original. Lovely bar area for the interval with friendly staff, good views of the stage from everywhere. Have already recommended to friends.
