Disappointing in comparison to the rest of the hotel. The design of the bar made us feel like we were in Heathrow T2. Low ceilings, slow service and it felt expensive for what is was. If you're after a top cocktail bar you're better off going to The Connaught.

“Disappointed with The American Bar”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012

We arrived for drinks to be told that there would be a wait for a table for two and subsequently waited 30 minutes in the memorabilia area.Although the bar states it does not take reservations some people turning up were taken straight into the bar.
After eventually getting seated we ordered our drinks.
The bar is so dark it was difficult reading the menu.
The waitress was pleasant.
Drinks arrived but it was disappointing to see the wine glass was dirty and certainly not what we had expected of this kind of establishment.
Having visited many top bars around the world this one fell surprisingly short of all of them!

“Perfect in every way”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

We were looking for the best cocktails in London and was assured the American Bar was the place to go as the head mixer was voted the best cocktail maker in the world. We decided to give it a try and weren't disappointed, in fact it may have been the best night out I've had. As expected the entrance to the Savoy is special, everything is shiny, the doors are all held open for you and everyone is very welcoming. It took a couple of minutes to be seated and were eventually seated near the piano which after around 9pm had a pianist and signer singing lounge classics and some pop songs in a lounge style. We know our cocktails and decided to order some which weren't listed on the menu, WOW is pretty much how I'd discribe them. They're just strong enough, just large enough, mind blowing flavours, WOW describes them perfectly. And at only £15 per cocktail they are very reasonably priced if you care about that, but if you did you wouldn't be in the American Bar... I will be visiting again and perhaps staying in the Savoy in 2013.

“Birthday Cocktails disappointment!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2012

After a birthday lunch at Rules in Covent Garden we crossed the road and entered the Savoy to go to the Beaufort Bar. As you walk down to the Savoy you get the feeling of grandeur and opulence. As you enter the hotel this is increased as the foyer is beautifully laid out, high ceilings, open fires, enormous christmas tree beautifully presented and decorated. We were greeted as we arrived and when we enquired about the Beaufort Bar we were informed that that particular bar wasn't open until later that afternoon but we could go to the American Bar instead.

After the impressive surroundings as we arrived; the American Bar was a bit of a disappointment. It was laid out no more enticingly than the average university canteen. Although we had a glimpse of the River from our seats that was about it - table next to us was within reaching distance. On a positive note there were delightful cocktails - I had the famous White Lady Cocktail and my partner had the Royal Punch - apparently created for the most recent royal marriage.

The American Bar did not amazingly excite; be that through layout, ambience or style! Whilst it is nice to say "we had birthday cocktails at the Savoy" that really is as far as it went. Two cocktails plus obligatory service charge cost almost £40 - what I'd expect for there really so no shock taken. I am told that the Beaufort Bar is the place that you should go to if you want old school glamour and a sense of nostalgia. Bit disappointed by the American Bar - sorry!

“Pure glamour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

We visited here twice on successive evenings after theatre trips, and each time, it was just fabulous. The decor in the bar, and in the lobby walking through is just stunning.Take time to have a look at the little history room about the Savoy, which is very interesting. And you must visit the ladies and gents!

We didn't have cocktails, as a bit too expensive for us, and also the only good one I have ever had was in theChina Club in Paris, and anything I have had since falls short. A glass of wine and a beer is not bad compared to quite a few upscale pubs and other bars in London, especially when you factor in the free nibbles and the piano playing.

Gorgeous place, would love to stay there. The staff were lovely and very friendly. Do treat yourself if you're in London.
