“Very Nice Stay in London”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

My wife and I just returned from a two week vacation to London, Brugge and Paris. While in London we spent May 29 through June 6 at the Jesmond Dene.

We chose JD because it fit our criteria very well: Very clean and comfortable, Reasonably priced (for London), Short walking distance to Eurostar and Tube stations, A friendly staff and overall high marks from Trip Advisor reviewers.

The bottom line is we definitely recommend the JD as it met or exceeded our criteria and expectations. We really cannot add anything new but will list some of our opinions and/or findings.
The JD is a very clean, comfortable B&B
Located near mass transit
The rooms are smallish but very well appointed, bed was very comfortable
The English breakfast was very good with plenty of additional options and prepared to order
All staff was very friendly and happy to serve
Immediate neighborhood was quiet, but enough food, beverage and other stores within 2 or 3 blocks.
Worked very well for us. However, if you are looking for public spaces and a large room to hang out in, it may not work for you

We stayed here in April as a family of 5 and stayed in their apartment which was 5-10mins walk from the hotel, with check in at the hotel. They were very friendly and drove us to the apartment which was comfortable, warm and had basic breakfast essentials of cereals, bread, milk, butter and jam. It worked out slightly more expensive than 2 basic rooms in most hotels but was great value to have your own space.
It was in a quiet, safe street just 5 minutes walk from Kings Cross station, which passes a Tesco Metro, a few nice pubs and restaraunts and made access to tube and bus around London no bother.
Would happily recommend a stay here for a family of five looking for something more spacious than one of the few 5 bedded rooms around.

We've just returned from our 3 month trip to UK and Europe and are now doing our TA reviews of which 'Jesmond Dene' is a worthy subject! It's really up there with the best of b&b's we've stayed in over the years in London.
Jesmond Dene's location is perfect, 2/5 minutes to 3 major rail termini, King's Cross, St. Pancras and Euston; major tube lines with connections to all airports, plus numerous bus routes at the bottom of the street. Our fresh, cosy twin room on the top level although bijou, as most London b&b's are, had everything one could want over a 2 night stay. The ensuite bathroom with a step in shower was just right, quality 'Grohe' fittings, a towel warmer, good toiletries, made for a classy finish. We had breakfast in a room on the lower ground floor, the breakfast offering was traditional English and continental in a variety of combinations plus of course, coffee and a choice of various teas.
Overnight was very quiet yet only less than a 100m from one of London's busiest roads.
'Jesmond Dene' is within walking distance to many of London's attractions including British Library, King's Place (canals), walk down through Russell Square to the British Museum and another 5 minutes you could be in Oxford Street.
This is a professionally run b&b which would not disappoint, we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Can't fault anything! Enjoyed it to the full. The staff were kind and helpful. You have to make a reservation for the breakfast as the room is small but it was quick and the breakfast was spectacular with a variety of beverages and toast while your waiting for the big breakfast. Really functional, i thought it would be too small as it looks on the pictures but it's not as it's not too busy. It's right next to kings cross station and near every tourist point. The beds were extremely comfortable and as i'm a bad sleeper i expected too not get much sleep but with these beds i was off straight away. TV's get every channel and isn't a cheap crap one. The room was cleaned once a day and was spic and span once cleaned. Overall i strongly recommend this to anyone going to London as it's in the center and clean, functional. If we go to London again we're definitely staying here, loved it.

Our group of 18-20 year old students stayed in early May. We were a group of 14 traveling from Canada. Our stay lasted six nights as we toured the main attractions London has to offer. By purchasing a London Pass, we opted to include a travel card that afforded us seven days of unlimited Tube travel. The Jesmond Dene is in a premier location for access to anything on tracks: both subway and train service. There is a fabulous assortment of restaurants just 5min in any direction. I'd recommend both curry houses at the corner of Euston and Gray's Inn roads. The Boot was our choice of pub over McGlyn's at the corner of Cromer and Speedy. The latter just microwaves all the dishes behind a glass counter as you wait with disappointed resentment at not getting freshly prepared food.
Back to the Dene. Darren is the manager and he sets the bar tremendously high for customer service. His standards have been conveyed to all members of his team who are ready to leap for their customers. Darren was able to look after each request our fussy group made - my hat is off to him. Darren has incredible sense of what his guests require and if you share details of your travel plans, he can provide you with excellent recommendations.
The facilities are nondescript but all of the previous testimonials praising the cleanliness are accurate. This is one immaculate facility. The breakfast is FANTASTIC and you should be sure to book directly with Darren instead of a third-party site. I just can't stress enough how much value there is in dealing directly with the hotel itself. Any last minute tweaks can be adjusted painlessly and having the breakfast available on site let's you get a jump on your morning.
We did not have concerns about the area.

I cann't wait to come back with another school group or my young family in the near future!

Thank you so much Darren and staff!!

Room Tip: To get a good room, speak to Darren directly.

Very welcoming and happy to look after baggage as we arrived too early to check in. Room was equipped with wardrobe, double bed and 7 sockets. TV had many channels. Bathroom was shoebox with sink curtailing comfortable use of toilet but shower was modern and hot. Interesting feature was to have window in bathroom which was coated with mirror surface.
In the morning you call down to say you are ready to eat and when they have a table they call you back. Staff happy to please. Breakfast very English.
Quiet location given 100 yds from KX.

If you don't require fancy, but you like clean, this is the place for you. We had a room with a private bath (some share). The room was tiny, but cleverly organized. We were only there when we needed to sleep and rest. The double bed was comfortable and the place was quiet. Close to a major train/ tube stop. They serve a simple "English breakfast" of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, orange juice, toast, bacon, eggs, and beans. You get to fill up for a busy day of touring the city. The staff were hard working and kind. We would go back without hesitation.

Room Tip: If you value privacy, choose a room with a private bath.
