A weekend stay for me and the lady wife. We normally go with Hilton hotels or Grange, but I was keen to try this one as it had a great rating on Tripadvisor. The location is excellent, just a few minutes stroll to theatre land and set back off Fleet Street, so very quiet too. Upon arrival we were swiftly booked in and with immaculate service from clearly well trained staff. Extremely polite and helpful. We were also given a double upgrade from a standard room to a junior suite, which was a pleasant surprise. And then we were escorted to our room by the lady who dealt with us at reception, it was like VIP treatment. The room was very clean and had 2 TV's, wonderful bathroom with a large walk in shower area and spotless. Even the toiletries were above the normal standard. Bed was comfy, but could have done with thinner pillows (minor point I know), but in all honesty pretty much everything was perfect. We did have an issue with the A/C which made a metallic clicking noise every few minutes through the night (even if you switched it off), but it was clearly a singular problem. The manager of the hotel and a colleague promptly arrived at the room to try and fix it. They were unable to do so, and it was late, but an engineer was around the following morning. It still clicked after so we gave up on it, but it was not too bothersome. When we went to the restaurant we were greeted by the Maitre Di and he knew our surname, which was an excellent touch. The restaurant was nice, it had some atmosphere, but the food probably only average. Service was a not great with 2 or 3 errors (due to shall we say, language difficulty) but the Maitre Di made a generous offer of free dessert, which was unexpected. All in all this small hotel group is going places (I think they are based in Edinburgh and have maybe 6 or 7 hotels, about 3 or 4 in London I think). A huge cut above the likes of Hilton, Marriott et all. Well done Apex Hotels, your work ethic and ethos is a breath of fresh air and leading the way in your industry.
