“Great return for the money; recommended”
Reviewed January 18, 2005

A fine choice for the mid-range traveler or the family that needs space. Our "flat" had a LARGE living room with a kitchen along one wall. The bedroom was totally separate. Sturdy doors between the two provided excellent privacy. Bath was new and roomy. Plenty of hot water and good pressure. All this for the same price as a mid-level Hilton.

Having a full kitchen could save you a lot of money considering London prices and the current exchange rate.

Located near tube stop (Earl's Court), grocery stores, restaurants and museums. Very safe area to walk even for women at night.

Free Internet computer in the lobby and free daily newspapers. Rollaways at no charge in addition to pull-out sofa and bedroom. Very family friendly.

If you are a light sleeper, request a flat away from the street b/c of traffic noise.

I would definitely stay there again, hopefully in a few months if I need to make a return trip.

We stayed in the lower suite at 5 Emperors Gate.
It was a very clean, large apartment consisting of a small kitchen, full bath, a separate small bedroom with European sized twin beds and a large living/dining area with tv, nice big window for light but no view as this suite is partially underground, you could see the stairs coming down to the door and a bit of an old church. We are a family of three and wanted to use the pullout sofa but it was not comfortable, luckly my son is not too tall and could sleep directly on the sofa. We would stay again as the neighbourhood is very safe and quiet and close to all necessities. The owner Robert was great. But should mention it is a typical old building so can hear people walking on floor above, which did not bother us and there was not a lot of hot water for showers. Kitchen had microwave and oven and four burner stove with small fridge. Was not fully stocked as needed to ask for a tea towel and did not have a colander to drain pasta or a small paring knife but if you ask all is provided. Would stay again and recommend it.

We stayed at the Emperor's Gate Short Stay Apartments. Once we were settled in a large room with a small kitchenette, private bath, a murphy bed and a pull out we were set. We walked to the grocery to get food for the fridge and microwave and were able to pack lunches each day as we toured London. We were able to get family passes to the tube which was within walking distance and quicker and cheaper then a taxi. We walked to Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens and the Museum of Natural History(free) we felt comfortable and safe walking in the area day and night. An excellent choice for two adults and a child on a budget.

I booked with Robert and his family at the last minute, but he was able to accommodate me. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from the Earl's Court Tube Station. Our room on the 1st floor (English numbering) had a full bathroom, small kitchen / sitting area, and a bedroom.

We stayed in the Knaresborough Apartments for 5 days in the summer of 2004. We had an apartment for 4 people for 120 GBP/night which is a good value in expensive London. Our apartment was small but furnished fine and had a small kitchen which suited our needs (mainly breakfast.)
Be sure you are able to climb stairs and don't mind sleeping on a pull-out sofa. Maid service was excellent with fresh linens and towels every day.
The 2 drawbacks I would mention would be considerable street noise at night (our apt. did face the street), and the age of the building which resulted in some very creaky floors (we could hear the person above us walking around.) The laundry facilities (1 washer and dryer) seemed to be in continuous use so we used the laundromat down the street. Location is very good -- tube stop just a few minutes walk away. Nice neighborhood with most necessities a short walk away. We would
stay here again.
