Description: The full-sized restaurant is one block away from my sherry and tapas bar, José, on Bermondsey Street. At the front there is a bar, offering a great selection of sherries and Spanish wines, with a spotlight on cavas, Spanish style gin tónicas and Spanish vermút. Here, at the window seats overlooking the lovely church of St Mary Magdalen or at the long communal table or at the bar itself, you can have a drink and graze on snacks, cheese, cold cuts and special tapas all day long. At the rear is more formal restaurant seating - tables for 2 and 4, banquettes for 4-5, a large communal table for 8-10 people and a private dining room for 8-10 people. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner in the evening all day from Monday until Sunday. When the restaurant area is open, the restaurant food menu is available in both the restaurant and the bar. We offer a selection of small and more substantial dishes that can be served as starters and mains or as tapas for sharing. As usual, I want to bring you delicious food with bright new flavours - the season's best on a plate. We take reservations for lunch and dinner in the restaurant and private dining tables, but hold the bar seating back for walk-ins.

We stopped by one night after work and perched on the bar right in front of the chefs.

As it was impromptu we decided on ordering a handful of starters. The Artichokes, Escalibada and Chorizo dishes were particularly excellent - light and full of flavour.
The wine list is well chosen and we decided on a bottle of Ensamblaje PQ Tempranillo which was a little too good (it was a school night after all).

All in all, a superb restaurant in terms of ambience, food and service. Bermondsey Street has really come into its own over the last few years and Pizarro adds to its charm.

Highly recommended.

We called in early on a Friday night at around 6.30pm and got a table. It soon got busy and the atmosphere was vibrant. The serving staff were excellent and friendly and warm. My starter of squid was nice, although my partner's prawn and broad beans was much tastier. I loved my main of red mullet, it was well cooked with lovely flavours. My partner didn't enjoy her cod as much and the bed of chard was a bit stringy. My dessert of macadamia cake and ice cream was melt in the mouth. Loved this place.

Took the family here when we couldn't get into Jose and we loved it. It is expensive but well worth every penny.

We had a fantastic special of some sort of steak that was absolutely amazing!

Only drawback was the bench seats that were difficult to get in and out of with tight chinos on!

A nice surprise in a great food street. Other more famous places were booked so went for Pizarro which was a great choice. Friendly, informative staff confident with good recommendations, a casual, open style of design around the very open kitchen and great, great food. Classy Spanish, more of a conventional starter then main course menu rather than Tapas style. My squid followed by Salt Cod was a good choice.

Will return to try more from the menu.
