“Ok but not great”

Food was of good quality but we did not find it outstanding. Prices and service was very good and there was a good atmosphere in the restaurant.

“Decent chain-restaurant food, shame about slack service”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

I don't mind jamie - I actually like him, and think he's been trying to raise some very good points about what kid's are eating, so good for him. So while I don't expect the food to be amazing (this is a chain restaurant, after all, churning quantities rather than qualities), it's a shame that it's the service that was so slack in the Jamie's Italian in Angel. We were a group of 8, so a decent sized group and decent sized bill - but after collecting our order, no-one came to see us and ask if we needed anything, if the food was ok etc....flagging a waiter for ordering the deserts, or bill, was like flagging a black cab on friday night - not many of them around free, to help you. So while the food is okay, and space suitable for large group and there's something for everyone on the menu, if the standard of the waiters would be a notch up, Jamie would (for me), earn his credentials as a restauranteur with attention to detail.

“Good service, excellent food, a bit noisy.”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We went to Jamie's at Westfield Stratford last summer and were so disappointed I didn't write a review. So it was with some trepidation that I booked here for 6 before going to Sadler's Wells for which it is very convenient.
No worries this time. Service was good and friendly and efficient to get us through on time for the show.
Food was excellent especially the very fresh crab starter and main course steak.
Wine is reasonable and they do a good english beer.
Don't know what the building used to be but with bare pipes etc it can be noisy.

“Lovely evening, tasty food”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

We were seated in a window seat at Jamie's Italian with a view of the wind blown&rainy street making us feel very grateful to be in the warm if noisy atmosphere of the restaurant.

The waiting staff were friendly and attentive but overall the service was a little slow. The tables aren't too close together but the design of the building means that the restaurant is noisy&can make conversation a little difficult.

Would we return-most likely. Now the minor negatives have been mentioned I can say that the food is lovely and the portion sizes whilst not large are filling and in my opinion not small. We had the bread selection and cured meat platter to start, the mixture of cheeses and meats were well balanced and tasted lovely.

Main courses of garlic and rosemary chicken and the special pasta dish of Tuscan bolognese with shin beef and chicken livers were both delicious, followed by a shared chocolate pot dessert which was rich with refreshingly creamy zabaglione ice cream. The wine menu is varied, starting at around £16 a bottle and the cocktails were nicely presented and tasted great.

I'd recommend the restaurant for groups of friends or family occasions along with couples. Overall I'd rate the restaurant highly and recommend the specials menu, it's not the cheapest Italian restaurant but we didn't feel cheated when the bill arrived.

Fabulous food, great staff and a good atmosphere. We visited on a Monday night and the place was really busy. The staff coped superbly and our table of 13 were all servced really quickly. Delicious baked mushrooms to start and a superb tagliatelle bolgnese for main course. Nothing fancy but absolutely delicious. Recommended.
