“Hospitality - Not Very Good!”
Review of Selhurst Park

OK, so 3 of us were on our annual trip to various football matches in the EPL from the US. This was our "Bottom of the Table" tour having seen matches in Swansea, Cardiff and now Crystal Palace. Upon arriving we were greeted and escorted to our table in the Speroni's restaurant. First the table was way to small, second jammed into a corner and with a fire extinguisher taking up 1/2 the seating area for one of us - not very practical. The room was WAY overcrowded and with over an hour to go before match-time way to HOT! The service was fine, but the food so-so at best. The match seats while said to be in the "Director's Box" and were only the 3rd row from the home-side bench, were HORRID! No padding or arm rests, that didn't start until 2 rows behind us - and very little leg room. All-in-all of the 3 stadium - all with hospitality - this was the worst. We had never been to Selhurst Park and based on this experience will NOT be returning on any future annual trip. BTW - 3-stars only because Palace won the match 3-1!

DISCLAIMER - somewhat biased home fan review

yes it needs a lick of paint, and people say it's hard to get to (it's not) but it's home to us, and the atmosphere is great right now. Level of football may vary, but the food is at an all time high, and the bars have up to 3 excellent beers on.

As an away fan, you are seated in the oldest stand running along the side of the pitch. This is like an old tin stand with very little insulation & very little in the form of shelter from the elements. On a rainy & windy New Year's Day, this wasn't an enjoyable experience. I recommend getting seats higher than row 30 if you want to stay warm & dry. The half time refreshments on offer are good but service slow due to the poor design. The bathrooms remind me of those at my local football club, in the seventh tier of English league football! The health and safety inspector would have a field day here!

Despite this, Selhurst Park remains as one of the last standing "traditional" football grounds and the atmosphere is better than your standard premier league stadiums. Well worth a visit but coincide with good weather if you have the choice...

Selhurst Park's atmosphere on a match day cannot be beaten. Lots of other Premiership grounds have little or no atmosphere but the Palace fans are renowned for singing and chanting irrespective of the score. This season - 2013/14 the team are in the Premiership and the club has made a number of welcome improvements at the ground - more and better quality catering and bar outlets, better signage and new seats. I'm a season ticket holder (for one year only given that I have to travel from Belfast to London to see games) and sit in the Arthur Waite stand. Very much a family club and a friendly ground.

As a 174cm tall (5ft 8) woman the only downside to this stadium is getting my legs to fit in to the seats comfortably. They recently updated the home stand seats putting more in there, meaning less room. I had to sit in a rather unladylike manner, and was glad to be wearing jeans! But even then my legs hardly fitted. More recently I sat in the Arthur Wait stand and there was slightly more leg room making it much more comfortable and a lot less painful.

Food here however is absolutely brilliant and certainly worth the price. Everything is cooked, well prepared and to a good standard - certainly better than most other football grounds.

The bar at the home stand side provides a wide variety of drinks and a lovely place to sit/stand and drink them while waiting for the game to start.

Being in the home stand also means you get access to clean and working toilet facilities, something that as a lady wasn't very pleasant at the Arthur Wait end (even though we were home supporters then too).
