“Good stay”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Stayed at Central Hotel, Upper Woburn Place London 6th-8th Nov and great little hotel. Five mins from Euston so great for anybody travelling from the north and only 3/4 mins to Russell Sq underground.Hotel very dated but clean and the warmest hotel we have ever stayed in. Shared shower/bathroom but again clean and plenty of fresh towels. Basic continental breakfast but can add full English for a little extra. Staff very helpful and you can leave luggage on departure day for £1!!!. Will certainly use hotel again. Great value for money.

Room Tip: Room on side of hotel and no noise at all.

Anyone looking for a cheap and cheerful hotel in a prime location in London-look no further...yes it could do with a bit of care and attention but for this kind of money it's a steal-the place is spotless, the staff are fine and the breakfast good...absolutely no complaints, only compliments...recommend!

Booked the County hotel as I had stayed there before and found it good value for the price. However, that was a number of years ago. First thing I noticed was that it appeared there had been no cleaning done since the last time I was there (and that included the staff uniforms). Went up to room which was disgusting - I had to cover the bed in my own towels to make sure I was sleeping on something clean. The corridors and the room stank of cigarette smoke and there were three empty beer cans lying in the corridor (and still there the next day) The elevator doors had graffiti scratched into the paintwork. The furnishings in the reception hall and the bedroom were badly scratched and ripped and there was absolutely no security whatsoever. There was a bathroom lock on my bedroom door which looked like it had previously been kicked in. Not a hotel for the single traveller as it feels very unsafe. I felt I was in a doss-house. I checked out after one night. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone

Room Tip: If you want a better hotel, just pay the extra couple of quid and stay in the Tavistock which is two...

This is not a hotel that you would use for a romantic weekend away unless you are hoping for an early break up or divorce. However, if you are travelling on your own or with a group of friends and what a cheap and cheerful place to stay then this is it. The room rates do not increase even if you book on the day and there are not many hotels (even the most budget) can say that.
For £62 for a double, booked online, I had a room bigger than the average travelodge and for about a third of the price.
There are several toilets and bathrooms and I didn't have to queue for any of them, night or day. The rooms are like a 1970s sitcom (woodchip wallpaper, beige and brown), but they are clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. My room was quiet too expect for the odd door closing on my corridor.
The best thing is the breakfast. A big standard buffet of English breakfast. Not the highest quality juices but better than similar budget hotels.
If you complain about this hotel then I just don't know what you think £49 (for a single room inc breakfast) could buy you in London that is superior.

Have a look at the classic tube map in reception too... you don;t see them anymore!

Staying in a good location in London usually means high prices. Not with this hotel. However you have to accept old decor and shared bathrooms as a result. Rooms are clean and warm. I would advise ear plugs for light sleepers to help deal with road noise (if front of building). My only gripe is the terrible mattress. My first nights sleep was poor due to the springs poking between my ribs. Sorted by putting two covers on top of mattress below the sheet!. Hope the owners plan to spend some money there soon!

I must have stayed in this hotel more than 50 times. Its budget but I love it. No fancy pricing - always £49 for a single and a bit more for twins and doubles. Never bumped to other hotels. Each room has a telly and a sink and shared bathrooms. Its clean and right next to Euston. For people on a budget and wanting function not romance or family its great.

Room Tip: rooms at the back are quieter

I might say I fell in love with this kind of hotel, kind of hostel. For a relatively cheap price, you get a room with access to common bathrooms and toilets, wifi downstairs, breakfast, and all the hotel stuff (if you are familiar with the Imperial Hotels offers, you won't find this one lacking in anything, except for the breakfast food which seems to be a bit older than the other bigger hotels). Otherwise the atmosphere is relaxed, you can be alone or with friends, the staff is very friendly and relaxed. The bar is also cool, not very crowded, but you can watch movies or chat with friends. The only problem is that it closes at 11pm. County is also very-very close to bus stations, and to Euston Station in particular, and a bit farther away from Russel Square. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs around so you won't be bored!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor and you can catch the wifi from the reception!
