Owner description: Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

“Good and bad points”

Overall a nice theatre, seats are small and cramped but wherever you sit you have a good view which is great.

The drinks are silly expensive but there was a nice sluch/shot combo which was affordable and very refreshing!

Great location, easy to walk to from anywhere in london really, but -
Unfortunatly its where we saw the most homeless people- we walked MILES around london and saw the occasional person sitting quietly so I wouldnt mind giving them a few quid, but right by the theatre there were groups and groups of homeless shouting abuse at people. So do be careful.

“show stopped half way through”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

Went to see Bodyguard on Saturday 17th August for my birthday, 20 minutes into second half the Safety curtain came down with an announcement that the show had stopped and would continued shortly, After 15 minutes it was annouced tha the show would now continue. No explanation. Totally spoilt the performance and then for the finally song to be mimed. Big disappointment and waste of money. £9.50 for a glass of wine each and not good wine at that complete rip off. One of the worst experiences in years of going to London musicals

“The Bodyguard at the Adelphi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

WOW, WOW, WOW a must see show. This is a show not to be missed and in such a wonderful theatre. I was transfixed by the wonderful use of the stage and the whole performance. The delivery of the songs and music was fantastic and I cant praise the cast highly enough, A wonderful wonderful evening. The staff at the theatre were more than helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The seating was a little tight for leg room but I had booked aisle seets to accommodate my husbands long legs. The air conditioning worked a treat on what was a very warm night. Would certainly go again and see another performance. The tickets were a little pricey £120 each dress circle but you had an excellent view of the stage. Would certainly recommend it to my friends and family.

“Good show”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

Went to see The Bodyguard show on Friday night. What a lovely theatre it was. Central. Very interesting. The show itself was great. The girls had great voices belting out the favourites of Whitney Houston. Overall a great experience. ..
