Owner description: Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

“Nice experience, good show”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

We really enjoyed this musical at the Adelphi Theatre. We got the tickets from our concierge at the May Fair Hotel, which was printed directly at the hotel. Top service. The music is very good and the show is well presented. The cast is above average, but the bodyguard however can´t compete with Kevin Costner as a character.
We preordered drinks in the bar for the interval, and recommend others to do the same to avoid queues at the bar.

“The Bodyguard”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

My husband and I went to see the Bodyguard last night. The music is great and everyone knows the songs from the film. The story is translated to the stage quite successfully and apart from Frank being a little bit too stiff and reserved it was good. The understudy played Rachel last night and she was very good. The encore is fun and had the audience on its feet.

“The Bodyguard Musical London”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

I was firstly disappointed that the star of the show Heather Headly was not appearing but in her place was Janet Kumah. I was not disappointed for long as this lady was very good. The rest of the cast were also very good. This is a well put together show and was superb. We are long standing theatre goers and have usually been thrilled with performances. I would recommend a visit to this show.

“Great singing...a little wooden acting.”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Recently saw a matinee performance of The Bodyguard. Was quite high up the upper circle so the view wasn't great, but could still see the stage.

Thought the lead and supporting actress had great vocals, but thought that the actor who played Frank Farmer was quite wooden - seemed like he was virtually reading from the script.

It was a little entertaining, but definitely prefer the movie version.
