Description: The Quality Chop House has a long history as a provider of hospitality. Once a working men’s ‘eating house’ it offered nourishment and respite for the weary. It is in this spirit that we’d like to welcome you back through our doors. We are now offering three different dining experiences in surroundings reflecting the beauty and history of The Quality Chop House. The first is our Dining Room, For lunch the menu is simple, small and set. For dinner, we want to feed you. Give us your coat, pull up a pew (quite literally) and we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll be offering a 5 course set menu, a progressive feast of our favourite things. You can pick the bottle (but we’ll have some magnums open to pour you a glass while deciding). Our Wine bar & Shop is open all day for on- and off-premises enjoyment. Our wines are fine but our prices are fair. A hand-picked selection from some serious cellars without the serious price tag. And we’ll have charcuterie, cheese and smaller plates on hand too. For tastings, feastings and meetings we offer our Upstairs - A private room for up to 10 people.

We booked the private room for a family party of 10 people, having read great reviews and also hearing good things about the restaurant from other family members. But on the night it was very disappointing....

- The one main course from their one daily menu was not available and had been substituted by veal.

- We ordered two bottles of a reasonably priced 1999 Bordeaux only to be presented with two bottles of 2007 by the same producer. When we said no to this the 1999 appeared.

- Most of the served dishes were cold by the time they reached the table.

- The main course veal when it did arrive was so raw in place we could not cut it with the serrated knives provided.

The staff were very nice on the evening, but the food was awful and for over GBP70 per head for the meal and wine it was wildly over priced given the quality.

We will not be returning.

This isn't a restaurant for everyone. There's no choice on the menu, so I wouldn't recommend it for tricky eaters. The food is simple, but perfection. Fabulous, quirky, atmospheric surroundings - unchanged for centuries I suspect (but the kitchen is modern!). The food is modern British, the prices are very reasonable, the service terrific....and I loved the way we were offered sparkling or plain water, in the house carafes (no designer nonsense). This is a real find.

The menu is, unsurprisingly, very meat based, but one of our party was a veggie and they quickly came up with a great alternative. Overall, the food was excellent, the ambiance superb and pretty good value! We will be back!

Last week I had the great pleasure to eat from the wine bar menu and to also have a dinner feast at The Quality Chop House.

Food is modern british (nose to tail eating) and very wine friendly. Graze extensively across the clever bar menu and enjoy vegetables such as cabbage simply braised in butter, meat dishes like rabbit terrine or moreish cubes of tongue crumbed and deep fried or a warm lamb salad - food that is very good in its own right, designed to share and to go with and complement the brilliant wines on offer such as a young but approachable and reasonably priced Chateauneuf du Pape.

Choose wines by the glass or bottle from a wide ranging knowlegeable list. Put yourself in the hands of the very amiable, enthusiastic and knowledgeable owners/staff who will, with skill, recommend a wine or wines that will compliment the food you are eating.

At dinner it is a set menu in the dining room with the option of suggested matching wines for each course. We shared a trio of starters (heritage carrots, ox heart and crab rarebit), pollock and then a huge but delicious serving of venison before tumbling home to lemon tart. The wine pairings for dinner are highly recommended and showed great skill and understanding of food and wine and markedly increased the enjoyment of the already excellent food.

Ask also about any special bottles that may open and available to try by the glass including a delicious and well priced dessert wine from 1954!

If you like fresh modern british cooking and are interested in wine I thoroughly recommend spending a lunchtime or evening or both at The Quality Chop House!

Looking forward to returning when next in London.

One of the best meals I have had for a long time. Was initially surprised to see a no choice Menu, but it was an interesting and imaginative Menu. Each course was brilliant, and every dish served was spot on in tastes and presentation. Atmospheric restaurant, with friendly knowledgeable staff. My only disappointment is that I don’t live nearer. Thank you for a superb and very memorable Meal
