I was surprised by the relatively disappointing reviews of The Canonbury on Trip Advisor. The only thing I can imagine this is down to, is that those that know of The Canonbury are keeping it to themselves.

I don't blame them if they are, as the hidden location away from the busy London streets, garden and atmosphere on an English summers evening very enjoyable, almost like you're not in London!!!! Perfect location to sink a few beers with friends in the garden, as the sun goes down.

Only downside is the extortionate prices, which reminds you that you are in London.

Went to have lunch and stay to hang out and watch the game-
Place was packed but we had made reservation.... Food was ok,- small portions
place was nice and had a bounce house for the kids in the back-

Major kid friendly place- babies at the bar- all that was new to me, but families were watching the game.

This bar/restaurant is just off the main street in Islington. The dining room was quiet when we first arrived although there were quite a few enjoying a drink. The service was attentive and good. I had the Chicken liver parfait, toasted brioche bread with apricot chutney to start and it was simply delicious, my daughter had Sautéed garlic & herb mushrooms on toast
with a rocket and shaved parmesan salad equally delicious and we both had the Open Chicken Pie with Tarragon with a side of creamed spinach which was beautifully cooked. By the time we left most of the tables were full and there was a lively buzz. Not your usual run of the mill pub food and the prices reflect this. Overall our experience was good.

We live locally to this good looking pub/restaurant and often drink here in the beer garden.

Never earting again:

Rude bar manager who couldnt care less, unhappy understaffed employees and a chef who screeches so all the restaurant can hear..

We asked 3 times for our bill and refused to pay for the crayfish/avacado salad main which looked like a garnish (£15)

Poor and slow service, a number of tables around us complained and others walking out without ordering...

Plenty of good quality restaurants in N1 for this pricing and will not be returning.

Ate here during a weekday evening with friends as had been recommended. Off to bad a start as they had run out of a number of dishes. When the food turned up the portion size of the tortellini for a main course was a joke (5 pieces), the crusty bread at £3 per portion was a soggy baguette from the supermarket and the burger baps also looked & tasted like they were from the supermarket.

Raised our complaint to the Manager and the response was "That is how they come. If you don't want them I will just put them in the bin."

I should say the bar staff were v friendly and helpful - issue is with the management and the poor food given the price. Fine a drink in the garden but certainly won't be eating there again.
