“Weekend stay in London”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in London at the Sofitel. The service was great and the facilities were as expected. We specifically chose the Sofitel as it offered a separate bath and walk in shower, and were very happy with the bathroom facilities. The restaurant was good for an evening meal and the breakfast buffet was good quality. The location of the hotel was perfect for our weekend of site seeing being close to Trafalgar Square, Buckinham Palace and much more. We would definitely consider staying at the Sofitel again.

We had a very enjoyable four night stay last week. I chose the Sofitel out of the literally hundreds of options available based on the recommendation of a friend who stayed there last year, and told me it was the best hotel she had ever stayed in, I can understand this sentiment now that I have been there myself! The service was impeccable, from the moment we arrived after an overnight flight, we were hoping to just store our bags but the manager was kind enough to find an available room for us. Front desk staff, housekeeping, concierge, bellman - every member of the staff was courteous and helpful. I was travelling with my elderly mother and teenage daughter so I wanted to stay somewhere safe and a bit luxurious, with a staff that would help us negotiate the city with directions, restaurant recommendations, finding cabs, etc., and that certainly was the case with the Sofitel. The location is wonderful, great for walking to many areas of the city, though if you are looking for shopping, nightlife and dining right outside the door, you will not find it here. The area directly surrounding the hotel is fairly quiet as is the hotel itself, which makes for a good night's sleep and a general feeling of security. There are several cafes/coffee shops right around the corner however, and in 5-10 minutes you can reach Piccadilly Circus or Trafalgar Square, which are teeming with options for restaurants, stores, theatres, etc. The tube and several bus stops are also within 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. The lobby area and rooms were lovely and well decorated, my only issue was with the shower in the bathroom, couldn't seem to find a way to take a shower without getting water all over the floor, must be some trick to it that I did not figure out while we were there! I mentioned on check in that we were in London to celebrate a special birthday for my daughter and we returned to our room one afternoon to find a dessert and a rose waiting for her, she was so excited! Hotel is obviously not inexpensive but can say it lives up to its 5 stars.

Room Tip: We had a view of the mall, which was enjoyed very much, fun to look out the window and watch the tra...

On arrival the greeting we received was warm and genuine, all Sofitel staff were helpful and informative and the attention to detail was superb. The luxury room we had was just that from soft decor to crisp fresh bed linen, hermes toiletries, slippers,bathrobes-everything you could want.
Location was super as easy access to St James Park, Leicester Square, Covent Garden and West End Shopping.

Our two day break at Sofitel left us feeling pampered and relaxed and we would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Luxury Rooms are exactly what they say- Lovely.

I booked this as a treat for my wife pre/post London Marathon as so close to the finish on the Mall (approx 200m). It is not cheap but one doesn't expect that when you look at London 5 star hotels. Everytime we visit London 2-3 times a year we chose a different hotel but this will now be our favourite hotel to return to. What sets this apart is simply the service is first class and so helpful and friendly. My wife was nervous as it was her first marathon and the staff all seemed genuinely interested in her and the other runners from across the world staying at the hotel. Breakfast opened specially at 5am but fully staffed and specifically geared towards the big day. Staff all have time to chat but a huge thanks and appreciation goes to Stephanie Segoura the hotel manager who leads by example with her customer service. Thanks again for a brilliant stay we will most definately be returning as such an excellent location for business, theatre or leisure.

Room Tip: 6th floor is so quiet and peaceful

The London Marathon is indeed a very exciting period. We are totally into it as some of our hotel ambassadors have also run the race. Encouragement is key to win.

I thank you for pointing out Stephanie Segoura. She is a true asset to the hotel!

We then look forward to welcoming you back soon.

A bientôt.

The Sofitel St James's is a great hotel in a central location. Just a short walk from Green Park or Piccadilly stations, it is easy to connect all across London. Staff service is excellent and nothing is ever too much trouble. Rooms are always clean and immaculate with Hermes toiletries and crisp white bed linen, but it is the bed topper and silken duvets and pillows that lead you to immerse yourself in an indulgent nights sleep. Tea and coffee and complimentary water in the room and free wifi. All in all, always an excellent stay.

Visited Rose Lounge for afternoon tea as part of my 50th birthday celebrations, the room was absolutely beautiful, it had a very relaxing atmosphere and was very welcoming. However, the service left a lot to be desired. We waited for what seemed an age to be acknowledged and shown to our seats, even though we had booked and specified online they had no idea as to our dietary needs. When eventually the waitress arrived, we were served our food after what was an unacceptable wait. I realised this was because there was only one person looking after the whole tea room. The portions were tiny and no refills were offered. What was serviced was delicious but not enough. For a top class London hotel this level of service is not acceptable and I definately will not be visiting for afternoon tea again. It compares unfavourable to the other London hotels visited for afternoon tea in the service and portion sizes.

Dear Madam,

I thank you for your constructive feedback.

I am disappointed that the service during your afternoon tea was not to our usual standard. I am sorry to hear that the service was slow and that no refills were offered to you. Please rest assured that I have given your feedback to the service team on that day. Those points have now been addressed.

I am pleased to hear that all of the products served to you were delicious.

Once again thank you for your feedback and looking forward to welcoming you back.

Best regards.
