“Very convenient location”
Reviewed July 21, 2014 via mobile

We stayed in the Travelodge at Bank in July 2014 for 2 nights. The location was fantastic and not far from a lovely place called Leadenhall Market where there are a great mixture of pubs, restaurants & shops, and a Wetherspoons pub not far from the hotel which is great for a cheap brekkie or beer!
The rooms were clean and comfortable, and had plenty of windows and a fan which were ideal as it was 33 degrees when we arrived.
The bathroom was small and a lot of the water from the shower ended up on the floor but as long as you put an extra towel down it's fine!
There was some noise from builders in the area on a morning and some people use the alley near the hotel to pass through on an evening but it was never anything too loud.
Overall our stay was great and we will definitely be visiting again!

Wonderfully located if you are visiting the "square mile". My wife and I were attending an event nearby on a Saturday night when the area is pretty deserted and booked this Travelodge as a (relatively) cheap room. The hotel itself has recently been refurbished and is situated almost equidistant from Bank, Cannon Street and Monument tube stations - only a few minutes walk from each. It's on a narrow side lane but my GPS maps app on my phone found it easily.

We had a room on the top (fourth) floor. Not much of a view but that isn't what we were there for. This is one of the newly refurbed Travelodges, which is why we tried it as we tend to prefer other budget chains. The room was quite small but not uncomfortably so. There's a nice king size bed, which was very comfortable. You get a functional bathroom with "hair and body wash" in the shower. There's a TV, desk, kettle with tea & coffee, four electric sockets....and...that's about it. If you want supplies there are several shops around though many close early at the weekend as this area isn't busy outside of the working week.

There seems to be a fan permanently in the room, and the window did open a reasonable amount, with a gap of maybe six inches. But there still wasn't much ventilation. We asked for a second fan which helped a bit. We did manage good sleep but it was very hot, in the July 2014 heatwave.

I would recommend this hotel for a short stay of a night or two in cooler weather. The reception, corridors and rooms seem to do the job well and are fairly attractively decorated. It's nothing special but I don't expect special. A good place to bed down for a night or two if you're on business in the area or attending a function.

Staff seemed pleasant, and there is a vending machine in the reception area. There's also a restaurant attached (The Don) which looks good but we didn't try it. We did try the "breakfast box" that Travelodge now offer. They were OK and a welcome morning snack but as they are delivered at 6am and there's nowhere to keep them cool they can get a bit warm. Breakfast fare included cornflakes & UHT milk, muffins, fruit bars, orange juice etc. Not bad just would have been better if chilled. Still they represented a no-fuss way to eat after we awoke.

If this is the way this chain is going then I might try again. Far better than some Travelodge experiences I have had down the years, just the heat in the room was difficult. Would definitely try again in cooler months. We didn't experience any noise but we were out until nearly 2am.

Excessively hot room and loud noise from the courtyard until 2.30 in the morning coupled with noisy and inconsiderate guests. The room was clean and bed comfortable but that is no good if you can't sleep. I was amazed that other guests put up with the excessive partying going on in the courtyard until 2.30 in the morning.

Stayed two nights here while attending a conference in the City. This Travelodge is very convenient for the City and surprisingly quiet. The bead was comfortable, too. However the shower/toilet is very basic and small (the loo roll holder is almost in your lap!) the shower in my room cycled between blasts of hot and cold (oh and there's a manky curtain flapping up against you when you take a shower) but the absolute worst feature was the breakfast. If you like a healthy breakfast don't opt for this one. There is no breakfast bar so the breakfasts come in boxes to your room - a choice between two only. Both contained muffins and orange jiuce. There was a yogurt bar & yogurt in mine. OK if you don't mind a high fat, high sugar start to the day. Subsequently I've been told its a common feature in Travelodges - wish I'd known.
The two receptionsist were polite and friendly, especially the guy when I checked out. He agreed with me about the breakfast and said they were aware of a hot water problem and were waiting for engineers to sort it. Nice to feel that your comments are taken seriously by someone.
Only gets upto an average rating from me because of the pleasant manner of the receptionists. Otherwise it would have rated poor.

Room Tip: Dodgy shower in 114

Great location, staff really helpful especially Isabelle on reception.
No problem with extra towels or other requests. Only problem i have is how the cost range from reasonable to quite extortionate from a day to day basis!!
Have paid as little as circa £60 and today £138??? it has also been much more. Please keep within a reasonable price range or are you aiming at the big city spenders?

I will keep staying there for as long as i can.

Room Tip: bottle bank collection in the mornings - so loud!

Ideally situated for central London attractions - walking distance to St Paul s, South Bank etc. Bit noisy when we stayed but it was the night of England v Italy in the world cup. Drawback is that this particular part of London closes down at the weekend as there are no office workers. The nearest places for breakfast are closed as are a lot of pubs. There is a McDonald's nearby if that's your thing. Even Cannon Street station was closed.
