Sometimes this excellent Travelodge pops up at a bargain price at weekends. Don't hesitate to give it a go. It is rather hidden, tucked away in St Swithin's Lane and on week mornings, you have to fight your way through the seas of city workers as the march to work. Loads of tempting breakfast places around and good public transport.

Disastrous - No hot water in the morning! Boilers not working apparently, no note under the door to say as much, so had to get dressed and go down to reception to find out. This was after I had been woken by very loud drilling that was making the room physically shake. I did get a full refund which I had to ask for. Just wished I’d stayed somewhere else. 1st ever bad review I’ve had to leave on Trip Advisor

Room Tip: Chose another Hotel!

We always expect our customers to have access to hot water so we are really sorry to learn of your disappointment on this occasion R S F. Our boilers are checked regularly, unfortunately unexpected issues can arise and our staff are all trained in how to handle such issues to ensure our engineers visit the hotel as soon as possible to fix the boiler. We are pleased to learn your complaint was resolved during your stay by our hotel staff.

This hotel chain promotes itself as cheap and no frills. Website home page mentions rooms as low as £25, and if that is all you pay then a small room and lack toiletries in the bathroom are to be expected. But when the room costs the same as we were paying for a suite in Chicago a few days previously then a sliver of soap, limited towels, a small washbasin that ricochets water out of itself onto the floor are noticeable.

This was the second time we’d booked this hotel, primarily for its location. It is a few minutes’ walk to the Guildhall where we were attending an evening function.

Set off an alley in a small courtyard, the rooms are quiet overnight, the bed is comfortable. There’s hardly any storage space but there is - hallelujah – a kettle, teabags milk and coffee. Small desk and just one chair. No problem for one night but those on holiday with a full set of baggage staying here for several days might struggle. Of course London hotel rooms are generally cramped and expensive. It’s a cramped city and space is very expensive.

However room is neat and spotlessly clean, we slept well and because checkout time is a most welcome 12 noon, we were able to have a leisurely breakfast, return for another tea and to read the papers before heading off to our next lunchtime engagement.

You can order a cold breakfast box and some snacks but there are restaurants right next door to the place and Cannon Street station with its facilities and access to the tube is two minutes walk.

I’m giving it 4 stars for what it is and hope that next time I’ll get it for £25 instead of more than five times as much.

Business trip to London. Hotel excellent location just off Lombard Street. Clean and tidy. Would recommend if on business. Not sure if would be that good a location for tourists? Cheapest accommodation in central London.

Stayed here on business earlier this week and whilst it did just provide somewhere to sleep, it would have been nice to have proper breakfast facilities. That said, Harris & Hoole did great coffee and breakfast sandwiches!
