This is just a spectacularly moving piece of theatre and the production and design breathtaking in their attention to detail. I know they are puppets but you completely loose yourself. Acting is second to none.

Felt the 1st half was slightly weak , but the second half was so very very clever. Even having seen the film did not reduce the emotion as the poignant moment.

War Horse as a theater production makes the film pale in comparison. The London venue is rather small and intimate, thus the audience is uniquely involved in the production. The movements of the horses show that the "handlers" have great awareness of the body language of these fine animals. Having just spent a week visiting World War I battlefields in France and Belgium, this production was certainly a fitting end to our trip.

I first saw War Horse around three years ago with my wife and was so moved I wanted to take my children once they reached an age when they would fully appreciate such a brilliant production. Thankfully Michael Morpurgo's books are so skilfully written for the younger reader I did not have to wait long until my youngest daughter had read the book. I won't retell the story as I think it's well known now thanks to Steven Spielburg's film and the amazingly successful book which initiated the whole War Horse phenomenon.

This production is staged at the New London Theatre which brings you really close to the stage wherever you're seated. The puppetry takes a little getting used to but after about 20 minutes you start to be amazed at the engineering of these amazing puppets and the talented actors/operators/puppeteers. The story runs at a perfect pace which builds to a brilliant finale which will leave you stunned even if you know the story well. Not one for young kids, I'd suggest 9+. One of the best shows in London, without a doubt. Take some tissues too, you might need them.

This is an extraordinary show that takes Mapurgo's story to new heights and makes the movie seem pedestrian. An essential for everyone!
