“Classic Italian”
Reviewed February 15, 2014 via mobile

Fantastic experience from start to finish. We booked for Valentine's Day and perhaps couldn't have chosen a more romantic local restaurant.

The staff were extremely polite and friendly from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The restaurant, food and staff are classic Italian, so you wouldn't know you're down a sleepy street in London!

We enjoyed the Parma ham and and Pâté, both of which were tasty and excellent. However, the highlight was without a doubt the lobster linguine. The fresh spaghetti, the oil, herbs and lobster itself were balanced to perfection. Best of all, the cherry tomatoes were without a doubt the juiciest, tastiest tom's I've ever had. Was going to ask where they get them, but didn't want to seem rude...

Only my partners sirloin steak was the slightest disappointment, as far too fatty (and she wasn't asked how she would like it done). A place like this should be selling fillet, not sirloin in my opinion.

The desserts and wine also deserve a mention, but you'll leave wanting more of the lobster linguine for sure.

It's not cheap but well worth every penny. And they don't charge service which is a rare delight in London and shows respect for the customers (who undoubtedly leave voluntary service anyway).

For steaks I will visit Popeseye opposite, but for perhaps the best Italian meal I've had, I will be back again for sure.

“Pots and Pans put to good effect”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

We have been to this understated relaxing restaurant a number of times over the last year. It is unpretentious and manages to provide a form of cucina casalinga with some inventive flare, (pasta with broccoli and burrata being an example) without obviously cashing in on its progressive popularity. It has a ground floor which feels cramped and a downstairs which is cosy and a little more boisterous. However the tables on the ground floor are separated enough for you not to feel everyone can hear your conversation and the atmosphere is a little more sedate. The menu has starters that are different to the usual Italian fare and a mains list which has no more than 3 interesting pastas and 3 other dishes. But despair not, this is their secret. A short menu which changes so it never becomes formulaic and allows the chef to concentrate on making new dishes which are consistent and very good. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. The food prices were standard, perhaps slightly higher than one would expect for the decor but the wine list prices were appropriately controlled so that a meal for 2 with water and wine will come in at around 80. Would I criticise anything, well the bread doesn't get replenished spontaneously and no parmesan was offered for the pasta dishes. I usually don't want cheese but I am sure they would have provided it I had asked. Would I go again yes "definitaly", I would score it 20 on my usual scale (see previous).
