This place looks great. A superb location, right next to the Gloucester Road tube station, and a menu that makes your mouth water. However, the reality is far from inspiring.

For a start, they say they offer take-away. To me, that means you go in, order something, and take it away. To The Patisserie, it means you go in and are asked if you want a table, and you must decline several times. Then you're abruptly handed a menu. When you want to order, you're ignored, until you can grab someone's attention, then you are told to take a seat and wait, so you ended up at a table anyway. Finally, you're provided with a bill, as if you've eaten there anyway, before the staff roughly shoved your goods into a plastic bag and threw it in your general direction. It seems like ordering to take away is a massive inconvenience for the staff.

We gave this place two tries, simply because I hoped the first experience was a one-off, but unfortunately it let us down again. We ordered pastries the first time, and were sure we'd upset the staff by asking them to provide some pastries to take away. They seems most indignant. Shame really, because the cakes and buns in the cabinet look absolutely delicious.

The second time we ordered a full English, and a couple of buns. they managed to miss off one of our items in the first instance, but we decided it was safer just to go with it than asked them to alter the order. The breakfast was cold and cheap. The scrambled eggs in particular were poor. With them came one forlorn sausage, one vege sausage, one rasher of bacon, a burnt hash brown and a plastic pot of beans. I suppose by definition, they'd provided the items listed, but they were very poor quality.

Shame, as this place could be a real gem.

One to miss for a cooked breakfast. Plastic flavoured sausages and tasteless scrambled eggs. Won't be back

Something that I consider very difficult to achieve is to cook eggs in the wrong way and the Patisserie achieved it. I ordered an english breakfast and it came with the worse, tasteless and ugly scrambled eggs that I've seen ever! the beans were canned beans tasteless and the sausage was the worse one EVER!

I also asked for a couple of cappuccinos that were TERRIBLE! so in summary a grand fiasco the english breakfast so be aware in case you decide to consider this restaurant for a breakfast.

This is a fabulous restaurant. The staff are delightfully attentive - especially during the busy Sunday morning breakfas rusht. The food is reasonably priced and very tasty. I would heartilly recommend, and return.
