“Wonderful base for a weekend break”
Reviewed September 14, 2010

We first stayed at the Grange City on our wedding day, when relatives booked us in as a surprise. We came back a year later to celebrate our anniversary and were not disappointed. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and our room, a standard double, was great! The carpets are thick and soft and the bed superlative! On booking we had requested a South-facing room with a view of the Tower and were told that this couldn't be guaranteed, and sadly on arrival the view from our room was a bit rubbish - ugly roofs and a glimpse of Fenchurch St station. This was the only negative and I guess someone has to have the rooms at the back!

The best part about the Grange City is the spa downstairs, with a 25m pool, wonderful 'starlit' jacuzzi' and various steam and sauna rooms. We used it every day of our stay, even after checkout! Another high point was the continental breakfast, included in our room rate, which offered a substantial menu. On day 2 we upgraded to English Breakfast for £8 each and ordered it up to our room, which we would do again though not every day. The minibar prices are reasonable for a hotel - a big glass of wine for a fiver without having to leave the room is ok in my book! We ordered room service dinner the first night which was delicious and pretty reasonably priced.

The hotel location is excellent, just minutes from the tube station and near the river. We walked along the South Bank to Borough food market, and had a coffee in St Katharine's Dock.

In terms of things that could be improved, providing conditioner would be nice, as would a DVD player as the films on offer were very expensive (£10 rental) and the choice pretty limited (absolutely nothing we wanted to watch). Being able to guarantee a room with a view of the Tower would be nice, though I realise that this may not be possible for logistical reasons.

We will definitely be back, probably around the same time every year, and perhaps one day we'll get that elusive Tower view!

This hotel was an excellent deal, a really good price through late rooms. We were really pleased, lovely hotel just one minute from Tower Hill Tube Station. Great Location for visiting London.
We arrived very early and were able to leave our bags securely with the concierge. (In fact we were allowed to leave bags with the concierge all day on the day we checked out). The room was lovely, small like most London hotels but really comfortable, great bed, large and clean with nice linen and washroom cosmetics. The AC was great and black out curtains made the stay comfortable and quiet.
Only downside you have to pay for WIFI...... this should be free in a 5 start hotel.
We would definitely stay there again though, we visit London frequently and this is the best hotel we have stayed at for this price.

This hotel is a good quality modern hotel, which if you can get one of their deals (we got £90 per night), represents excellent value for money for London.

It is well located, just 2 minutes walk from Tower Hill Tube.

Note that because this is in the City it is quiet at weekends and many things, such as coffee shops and restaurants are closed.

Can't really fault the hotel in any way, but I can't give it 5 stars, because it is just a modern box hotel, with nothing special to make it stand out.

Stayed here over the Aug Bank Holiday . We found the hotel to be great value and very clean, staff helpful and friendly we got an up grade as it was a birthday treat and we found the breakfast very good we did not up grade to the full english but what we had was perfect.
The great plus is the tube station is a 3 minute walk and the hotel is very quiet at night. If I was returning to London I would stay here again I can not find any fault with this hotel what5 so ever.

Booked last minute and was delighted to discover this gem of a hotel. The 9th Floor room overlooked Fenchurch St Station and I could not hear any outside noise. Ventured to Wetherspoons for breakfast, and Zizzis for evening meal. Never needed to ask for anything as all needs are catered for with mini bars in room. Well worth searching out a great deal on this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at The Grange over the bank holiday weekend. Booked double with en-suite. On arrival the room was great, fantastic views overlooking The Tower. Complimentary bowl of fresh fruit, bathroom accessories were all Molton Brown which adds a bit more luxury.
We used the pool and hot tub, changing rooms have all you will need including shampoos, etc and hairdryers, towels are supplied.
For those of you who do not know London too well, looking at previous reviews many have stated that over the weekend there is not much choice of where to go. Should you wish to; a five min walk bearing left of The Tower brings you into St Katherines Dock, restaurant, bars and a beautiful harbour. If you fancy a slightly longer walk cross over Tower bridge and bear left where you will find Butlers Wharf; even more to choose from and first class.
The water taxis are great, you can find them on the river at the end of The Towers walkway, if you like I would rather not take the tube.
Free complimentary paper in the morning. Breakfast is lacking a bit but don't let that put you off, you can pay extra for full english but to be honest we found the breakfast to be quite adequate. Very good service and you can take your time and enjoy reading the papers in peace. Enjoy your stay!
