“First Class Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

Found this on Secret Escapes. Beautiful hotel in an old banking house right in the City of London. Interior is really well done retaining all original features but adding an unmistakable elegance. Great breakfast.

The hotel has friendly, helpful staff who greet you politely. We had a lovely spacious room with a nice selection of toiletries and coffee making facilities. Nice comfortable beds and the atrium is simply stunning. Overall a very pleasant stay

Having young children we never managed to really celebrate our 1st & 2nd Wedding anniversary so I decided to take my wife to London for the weekend.
After Trawling through reviews and every website possible I kept coming back to Threadneedles as the hotel I wanted to stay out with it been 5* and at a weekend at a 4* price! I booked through lastminutes top secret hotels, which was not really that top secret as the description and location gave it away really, so got a really good price!
I was a bit concerned about the quietness of the location at weekends, which it really was so quiet, but don't let that put you off as Bank tube station is 2 minutes at the top of the road and is a great station linked too four separate underground lines so can get around quickly and easily!!
We arrived in London at 9am and wanted to see all the sites and not cart our bags about all day so decided to make our way to the hotel and see if we could drop them off their. Upon arriving in reception it has a lovely warm feel and the reception staff very welcoming. Although it was 9.30am we were promptly checked in and told our room wasn't available, which we never expected it too and the bags put in to storage until we returned later.
This is where Threadneedles really made the whole weekend special!!! We collected our key from reception and told we were in room 503. Upon entering the lift another guest was in there who were going to the second floor and tried entering the 5th floor and the lift wouldn't go, so I tried my room key and it worked straight away. It was only later I realised the 5th floor has restricted access to guests staying on that floor and is where the penthouse is.
We entered the room to be greeted by a card wishing us a happy 3rd wedding anniversary which was a nice touch. The room was very nice and the bathroom lovely and felt 5*!! We then opened the doors to realise we had a private roof top terrace with table and chairs so enjoyed a few drinks before going out for a meal.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a bit of luxury at a fair price and I will not hesitate to stay hear again if I ever stay in London again :-)

Operated by Marriott. Stayed here for four nights. Threadneedles is a small hotel located in The City, far away from the main tourist areas of London, close enough to the Bank of England and other financial institutions. Wouldn't have stayed here if I wasn't required to for work. Quite expensive. It's only restaurant, called Bonds, has good food, though it closes at 11am on Sundays.

No pool, gym or onsite parking. Free wifi. Breakfast was pretty decent but not cheap. The omelet is a bargain!

The good value deal we were offered allowed us to visit London with me being able to visit some old haunts from the early 1970s.The City was buzzing when we arrived but changes over the weekend to the extent that the hotel restaurant is not open on a Saturday evening. This was no problem as we ate out on both nights. As might be guessed, the hotel was once a bank. They have made a fantastic job of the conversion. Our room was a reasonable size looking over the city roofs and cranes building the fantastic skyscraper offices. We were told we had been upgraded but felt that a lower grade room might have been somewhat cramped. It was also very warm throughout thr hotel on a cloudy weekend and we were told that the A/C might not be as efficient as hoped for caused by the original construction of the building.I could imagine this being a problem in a hot summer. But,this does not detract from a very good hotel with helpful Staff.Travel to other parts of London is easy with Bank Underground just round the corner.

Last July I stayed at the Threadneedles Marriott Hotel and am happy to report that my stay there was a wonderful experience. The employees are so nice and helpful. There is a lovely restaurant annexed to the hotel and many great restaurants very close by. Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant is right up the street and there is an excellent Oriental restaurant directly across the street. On Saturdays there is the Borough's Market at London Bridge, within walking distance from the hotel. It is a great food market and a great experience. There is a tube station (Bank) very close by the hotel. The hotel provides a bowl of fresh fruit and two tall bottles of water daily. There was an espresso machine in the room and my room and bed were very comfortable and I enjoyed the nice, big marble bathroom. Half a block away is the Royal Exchange (look it up) with restaurants and great shops. I enjoyed speaking with Mr. Romao Catrapona, the manager, who told me of the hotel's past - it used to be the First Bank and the interesting glass dome over the lobby had been removed, pane by pane, during WWII and afterwards replaced. The beautiful St. Paul's church is nearby and should not be missed.

Good location, just 5-7 minutes walk from the Bank underground station. Though not many restaurant around and not much to see in the area.
The rooms are really nice and have all the essential facilities. The toiletries used the bathroom are of fine quality. The tea coffee making facility and the minibar are great.
Friendly staff the the decor is very Victorian and contemporary mix. They do not have a leisure centre.

Room Tip: Ask for upgrade. They would upgrade if a room available. High floor is recommended.
