This is a nice hotel, in a good location on the far side of Victoria Rail Station; it's very similar to the Hilton Doubletree which is more or less across the street and which on balance I preferred, because it's rooms seem more up to date.

It has the same key advantage of a great location, within walking distance of the Tube and close to the usual attractions.

My big complaint was the procedure for registration; I am used to hotels routinely asking guests to complete forms which include personal details such as home address, e-mail etc - this was the first time I'd ever encountered one that required you to provide your date of birth. I normally just refuse - since there is little ability to check their usage of these details, and given the prevalence of credit card fraud, it seems ludicrous. With date of birth and home address, plus the card details on your reservation, you might as well just hand your card over to anyone willing to pay for it.

They insisted and claimed it was a legal requirement, which is simply not true. In the UK, hotels can require you to show them photo ID to confirm a booking and if you are a non-UK citizen, to provide the date and place of issue of your passport - that's it. It may seem a minor detail but given the number of times I've had my cards cloned (even when being careful), it's ludicrous. I haven't had this problem at other hotels in the same group.

Room Tip: My room (452) was right next to the linen cupboard. Lower floors are probably better because as ever...

Dear Mersonfanclub

Thank you for your review.

I can assure you that all guest details are protected and held safely, we ensure that we do not share these details and always work within the data protection act. We are aware that requesting date of birth is not a legal requirement and I have ensured that the Front Office team have been re-trained on the correct requirements. However we do have the space on the registration card for our guests to complete the date of birth to help them celebrate their birthdays should they wish.

Your feedback has been taking into consideration and we thank you for raising it to our attention.

Kind Regards

Rob

Stayed for four nights with family. The hotel itself is modern and well appointed. Rooms a reasonable size, and had air conditioning, which worked perfectly during a very hot summer visit. Breakfast was good in terms of choice and quality, and hotel provides a choice of free papers and free wifi. The hotel is very convenient to Victoria Station - a five minute walk away. The area has lots of good restaurants - from chains such as Giraffe and Nando's, to lots of independents. The hotel is also close to theatres for Wicked and Billy Elliott, and anyone going to Buckingham Palace.

I booked a night into the Park Plaza Victoria and specifically booked a room where I would have some seating and working area screened off from the bed. I booked an 'executive studio' room because, in the hotel's photographs, it showed a room that had a nice little seating, working alcove. When I checked in, what I got was basically a normal double room with a sofa under the window instead of a chair. Maybe there's a few extra feet, maybe not, but it was nothing at all like the photograph titled 'executive studio'. I went downstairs to inquire if this was, in fact, the room I'd booked, but the woman at the desk said it was.

It's not that the room is unpleasant. It just isn't what I wanted or expected or what is advertised in the photograph as an executive studio, I would have booked something else.

Well, live and learn.

Room Tip: There's a lot of traffic noise on the second floor. Didn't really bother me, but if noise do...

Dear Remittancegirl

Thank you for taking the time out to write this review.

Some of our executive rooms have a slightly different layout than what is advertised on the website due the room size however I can confirm that they still offer the same extra amenities as the others.

I would like to apologise if you found this misleading and should you wish to discuss this in more details please feel free to contact me on 020 7769 9999.

Nothing super special, but fully acceptable. Rooms are large, beds are comfortable, and I found the service to be efficient and very friendly. Lobby bar is particularly attractive, but drinks are very expensive.

Note that the free WiFi is limited to 512k so don't plan on streaming video or music unless you're willing to pay extra.
