We stayed here for one night after a meeting with some friends. What a fantastic place. The room we had overlooked a peaceful garden and was clean, comfortable and warm. Breakfast was excellent and the staff are lovely. There is a very comfortable lounge, with drinks available. Will definitely stay again. The Chapel in the grounds is worth a visit.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are quiet & peaceful.

We stayed when seeing pink at the O2 and we were very impressed; the dlr is less than 5 mins walk; straight to canning town then jubilee line to O2 in 20 mins or so was brilliant. Amazing concert finished about 10:45 and we were back in the room for 11:15! It's very quiet, clean and just lovely considering you're in the centre of London and with parking too. Only issue is getting through London, complete nightmare in the car! But cannot fault the hotel.

This is a really lovely place to stay ..... truely a place in the country yet in the middle of east London. I stayed there the night before my London Marathon stagger. It is exactly what I was looking for ... quiet and calm .... surprisingly ('cos I was excited about the race the following day) I got a good nights sleep. Do not be put off by the name if you are not religious - it is a small hotel with bright, clean and airy rooms. It is a quiet place and there are no TVs. It is very close to the Docklands Light Railway and the breakfast was just what I wanted. The staff are second to none. I can not rate this hotel highly enough and I wish that I had found it years ago!

Room Tip: I was in room 20 overlooking the massive grassed courtyard and rooms 17 to 20 something must all hav...

I heartily endorse this place for people looking for safe, clean and peaceful accommodation on a visit to London. It is very close to City Center; the transition from Underground to Light Rail is very easy. The Limehouse stop is around the corner with signposts to indicate which way to walk. Breakfast is fresh and healthy. Staff is absolutely wonderful. My daughter had a little travel virus and everyone here has gone out of their way to be helpful and check in on her recovery. The room is clean and pleasant. Free wifi is strong with no glitches. Although there is no attempt to push this, there is a simple, restorative chapel service every morning to which visitors are welcome. Families with very energetic young children might want to look elsewhere. Most of those staying here seem to be singles, couples, and families with children old enough to maintain the quiet environment of their own volition. I would encourage folks to explore the immediate neighborhood while here. This community has a long and interesting history. The chapel sits on the site of a church that was destroyed in the Blitz as was much of the East End. This is commemorated in a plaque in the garden, along with other very old and beautiful carvings that one will discover on a slow, watchful walk around the grounds. Anyone would be fortunate indeed to stay here for a few nights.

Room Tip: We liked our ground floor twin that looks out over the garden.

Just a few moments away from Limehouse DLR and you will find the RFSK. You can be in Central London in around 15 minutes- essential as the local area is not geared towards tourists. Although this is a religious retreat, there is no obligation on you to participate in anything remotely holy! Rooms are clean and spacious- the flats have two bedrooms, and sleep four to six. You'd be hard pushed to find similar quality accommodation for families in London. However, this accommodation works best as a base. There's little to entertain children or young people, for example. There are no TVs but they do offer free wifi and one PC for guests' use. There is a simple, well stocked bar where you can purchase a nice selection of drinks and nibbles at reasonable-for-London prices. As for breakfast, 'continental' can mean some bland cereal and a limp croissant. In the RFSK, however, there are juices, cereals, toasts, pastries, eggs, ham, cheese and a selection of fresh fruit. Finally, the tranquility- the premises are arranged around a leafy courtyard that gives no indication of your urban surroundings.

Room Tip: Check when booking if your flat has a fridge- they do advertise this but our fridge was missing!

Stayed here on a Tuesday night as a convenient overnight stay when I knew I'd be working late in my Canary Wharf office and did not fancy the 2.5 hr commute home. Its easy to access - right next to the DLR, peaceful and the breakfast was very good. I was lucky enough to have a large room with an enormous bed, upstairs at the back of the building looking out over the garden. This location would be lovely for light evenings to enjoy the courtyard and garden. I did not miss the TV and relished the opportunity to read and relax in peace and quiet! Cannot comment on eating out as I didn't bother with food that evening.
My only hesitation is that I felt the price was maybe a little high at around £110 for the night. Would recommend going directly through the Royal Foundation's website as I think the rates were a little better. Staff were super and I personally liked the calming spiritual feel, opportunities to worship and pray are available although this is very low key and its clear that the Royal Foundation of St Katherine welcomes all.

Very peaceful & clean. Good location, next to train station, close to Thames & lovely old pubs next to river. Good shower.Only criticism was not enough toilet roll in room, ran out on 2nd morning of stay. No tv but that could be a plus as makes the stay more relaxing. Bathroom had metal plug that was impossible to get out when sink full of water. Fairtrade tea & coffee in room, and breakfast was ok ham, cheese slices, cereal , yoghurt, fruit etc. Would recommend for a peaceful stay in the city, and not put off by religious paintings. The history of St Katherine's is also interesting to read about . Overall a nice alternative to the usual hotels etc.
