The Mall is the road, just under a full kilometer in length, which links Trafalgar Square with Buckingham Palace in central London. Interestingly the road is tinted in red colour to produce the image of a large red carpet leading up to the Palace.
With good eyesight and blue skies you can see end to end quite well. You can also a long row of Union Jack flags lining the Mall, on each side. In all, its a nice view and something many visitors will be interested in seeing for a few minutes. It is also the most direct walking path linking these two attraction areas.
Unfortunately, we find the traffic driving up and down the Mall to make this a less preferred approach between Trafalgar and the Palace. Instead, we prefer walking through St. James Park, which is the south side of the Mall. The walk along the lake also leads straight to Buckingham Palace. You can also see the Horse Guard Parade Grounds as well if you take this approach.
