Lots of planes and helicopters, well worth the trip. Focus on WWII fighters and bombers. You can easily spend several hours in the museum's hangars. Large rest area for those who'd like to bring their own lunch/feed their kids.

Bus runs from Colindale Tube Station every 20 minutes or so, but the museum is only a 10 min walk away.

There is no entrance fee. Lots of information on display, but I think an audio guide would be a nice addition.

We arrived by car and it was reasonably easy to park. I went with a mixed age group from retirees to primary school and we all had a good time. First off, it is free admission, which is a great help for young families and there were loads of them there in the Easter holiday. There is a huge variety of flight related things to see and do. There is even a play area inside for younger kids and seats for tired parents. The cafe that is in amongst the planes was expensive and not great, but you could bring a picnic. I discovered later that there was a restaurant also in another building but I cannot comment as we did not go there. It is really fascinating and well laid out even if you do not see yourself as a plane enthusiast. If you do then you would be flying.

Wonderful collection of beautifully kept and presented aircraft, many of which are of historical significance.

The museum is set out over four hangers and has all the significant military planes from WW1 to the latest jet fighters.

It is located just of the bottom of the M1, and is a really good half day, if you like looking at old aeroplanes, obviously little else here.

I was really impressed by the quality of the aircraft and their presentation.

If you love old planes a great place to go!

If you're around Colindale with a spare morning, check out the free-of-charge RAF Museum and see a real lancaster bomber hanging from the ceiling. They have a collection of some FANTASTIC machines. A bit isolated, but then again, they need the space!
