“Small, Uncomfortable”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

The room was exceptionally small even by European standards. The bathroom was the size of an airplane lavatory with the addition of a small shower. The sink was so small and close to the wall you could hardly wash your face or brush your teeth. The hair dryer was hard wired into the wall at the desk in the room with NO mirror. The breakfast was horrible. We will not return.

Room Tip: Stay at one of the many other hotels in the same area. Rooms here were too small to be comfortable.

Some will say that this hotel is not great, and it isn't. Hence my overall rating of 3. But please keep reading! We stayed one night in this hotel with the intention of not burning our pockets, and this was perfect. The price was comparable with the travelodges of the capital city and had a few minor perks on top!

As mentioned in the title, this hotel is located 2 minutes away from the metro station Queensway, on the northern edge of Hyde park. It has within 5 minutes restaurants, fast foods, small grocery stores, newspaper stores, currency exchange shops,... and a huge park!

With respect to the hotel itself, it was clean, and although it was advertised as being a small room, we managed to stay in it as a couple with two big pieces of luggage without any problems. The room was nicely decorated, if not on the plainer side, and the bathroom had a modern style. Actually, the only thing that we would complain about is the sink which was very small. The hotel is on a fairly quiet street, so there was little road noise.

Included in the price, which is rare for these type of hotels, was a self-service breakfast. Fairly plain, but had everything people would need (fruits, bread, jams/honey, cereals, milk, tea, coffee). And finally, the staff was friendly all the time we were there. I would definitely return there if they keep their prices as low as this!

just spent 3 nights at this hotel with my husband and our 6 year old grand-daughter who the trip was for, as it was her first time visiting London.
Everything was very basic and i expected a little more for the cost.... the room was very small + cramped for the 3 of us. Small unit for hanging clothes but no drawer space at all and had to leave our clothes in the suitcase!! the room was in need of a good lick of paint! the continental breakfast was ok but not a lot of choice (same things each day) only white bread and full milk! the milk for the cereals and the orange juice were room temprature (warm) and not cold.
On the plus side all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in a great location with bus and underground stations very close by.

Spent 2 nights at this small hotel which is a classic example of what can be done with a small space within a typical old European building. They have cleverly utilized each space to the max. Everything is pretty modern, very clean and needless to say, Hyde Park!!!! Location is magnificent steps away from the Park. Queensway just a block away, with a variety of restaurants. It is a fabulous option for a budget hotel; air conditioning (which isn't available at many hotels) clean; decent price and location, location, location. Basic breakfast, but more than enough. I would gladly return.

Room Tip: The small rooms are really small. We just had a weekend bag but if you have any more luggage you ma...

My wife and I had just arrived at the Hyde Park Comfort Inn right after coming back from a week long cruise......the service at the hotel was TOP NOTCH and Staff were very friendly......

The best tube stop to exit is Queensway, its right on the corner of Hyde Park, walk right into the park and it was so awesome. Jogging, early morning walk or cuppa coffee?

Bayswater tube stop is a 2nd location down Queensway Road, its older station and has very very slow big elevators to take you from the ground tube to street level.

We stayed for 6 nights in ground floor gd01 room...which is right behind the check in desk.

The room was excellent, bigger than our cruising cabin.....cozy and no room to run around and do jumping jacks, but for two people its perfect.

Comfy bed, I ordered extra pillows, and ice cold ac unit.....best around 18-19 C for those
sweaty walks around London, up and down stairs and up and down tube stairs and such whew
we got quite the workout in London.......

Room has enough room for two large suitcases to be placed either under the bed or under the mini desk with tea......there is this sitting cube, which I placed up on the window ledge
so we would have more walking room. TV is nice, slow changing channels.

Shower is nice and small, don't drop anything or its an ordeal to bend over for getting the soap.
Tub is slippery so get free bathmat at the front desk.

Has an elevator aka lift big enough for two people and a couple suitcases...thats all

The best parts of this hotel at the friendly staff.......the wonderful ladies who prep and make your morning breakfast awesome........very friendly especially Antoinetta...she is LOVELY.....very happy to make your start of the day, go well.........she maintains the breakfast and it is nice....huge coffee machine making cappichinos to white coffee, or expressos....YUM
Fresh oJ and milk.....tons of cereal in your own little box......fresh huge white bread and wheat
croissants soft and lovely, butter, jams, and no hot foods though.......make your own cuppa hot tea........trust us, its a lovely breakfast........it was never busy and the big screen tv is turned on
with the morning news.......
this was our best part of our days here...

one day we walked around the corner to Queensway and got lunch from Tesco express or Sainsbury ....they love to welcome you in and shop...grab a basket........mostly featured are the sandwiches....BRITS love their sandwiches.........cold sandwiches, some crisps (aka potato chips) and a cold drink and some Brit sweet like Eton Mess or Lemon cake or chocolate
makes this a nice lunch for under L8 ($10 bucks)........we grabbed dinner from these two stores most of the time....there is a Whiteleys mall (yawn) but they have a bigger store called MS Marks and Spencers with heat and eat options etc....but no fridge or microwave in the rooms at hotel.

The Pizza Hut was actually good, so was the Mcdonalds....best to grab and go and eat in your room or take to the park and sit in the grass and have a little picnic or lunch....for us its always
run run run.....doing stuff, sightseeing and relaxing and enjoying all the different cultures that
you will soon be immersed in....leave your grips at home....stand in the queue...(lines) for food
and service and you will have a lovely time.....

Speak softly and don't be an Ugly American tourist....hehehehe

Back to the hotel, we came in and left all times of the day......morning, late evening
and never had any troubles, lots of people and cops about on the beat (on foot)
Saw some young teens here and there laughing and having fun, being bored just like in the US....
but manners of the teens was very nice

Tons of tacky London tourist shops, go the last day in town and haggle, the price on the ticket
is not the price you pay...haggle.....gather up many items and make a price offer.....we
got tons of stuff....the best tourist shop is the last one by Hyde Park, next door to a cambio
de change.,......guy loves to haggle......we got t shirts, keychains and other things for about L20 about $30 US when the rip off guys midway down Queensway wanted to charge almost DOUBLE....avoid those shops, right by any tube station or the owner watching you like a hawk
like you might PINCH (steal) something....I walk right out of those shops......

They have ice in the basement of the hotel in the breakfast room
if you want to sit down their and have your meal.......we ate on the bed, crumbs
not allowed hehehehehe

Directions from Bayswater tube.........exit right out of the tube.....Sainsbury grocery couple doors down, grab some grub, or a cold drink.....walk up a little more. turn left......and go two streets
up to Queensborough Terrace, the building at the end of the street says 1 Porchester
but turn left and the hotel is on the left....google earth it and you can drop in to see the neighborhood and what is looks like.....all white pillared homes and hotels.....

Directions from Queensway tube......exit station on the left.......walk 2 short blocks
turn left up to Queensborough Terrace, hotel is first left up 5 stairs.....small lobby

Choose a lower level floor if your sluggish or lazy (thats me) or for the adventure any other floor.
Everyone seemed very lovely at the hotel and guests had no grips at breakfast......each morning.

Great location, right across from the Hyde Park.......
Great tube stops two of them right by you in 5 min walk.
Great bus route right outside the door......stand by the Hyde Park to go west
or stand on the inside by the hotel to go into central London
Great room, clean and comfy, loved having ac and window to open

Lovely walk from Notting Hill Gate....especially at dinnertime/night lots of dinner specials, pubs.
only takes 15 mins if strolling slowly......

Anyhow great location and all the creature comforts of home, hot tea in your room, ac, nice comfy bed, hot shower, small towels thou.

We would gladly stay here again anytime we come back to London.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor are easy to get into especially after long tiring day walking in London. Brea...

First off, I want to say to the management of this hotel, that Aurelio, the young man at the front desk gave us amazing service! He helped us out with directions, made phone calls for us for cabs, etc. He made our stay there very pleasant. We felt like he went out of his way to be accommodating to us. I stay in a lot of hotels due to much business travel, and this young man's help and assistance was outstanding.

The hotel is an excellent location........right next to Hyde Park. Only about a 10 minute walk to Kensington Palace and Gardens. It is a short walk to many restaurants and tourist shops and good places to shop.

The hotel is located on quiet street just one or two minutes’ walk from the main street where Hyde Park is located.

Best of all, the neighborhood gave you a safe feeling that you felt safe walking outside at night.

We loved the location right in London.

The rooms we had were comfortable. The beds were great. The A/C was good.

The only down side I would say about the rooms is the bathrooms were very small. Ie: the sink was probably the size of an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper.

If you were a large person, it would be hard to turn around and dress or undress in the bathroom. The shower was very small as well.

Halls were narrow, but sufficient. The lift was small, but sufficient.

We liked this hotel a lot and would DEFINITELY seriously consider staying here again on another visit to London.

Room Tip: You don't want a room near the lift if you can avoid it.

I spent 6 nights at this Comfort Inn at Hyde Park recently.

Overall, considering price and location, the hotel is good. It has pros and cons though, so see below if interested.

Pros:
-Location is perfect. This hotel is in central London, right next to Hyde Park. The area is perfect for a tourist as you are only a block from two subway stations (Queensway and Bayswater) so you can go all over London easily. You are right next to a massive park which is great for walking or jogging. There are plenty or restaurants (from Mc Donalds to local pubs), stores, and laundromats near you so its not a hardship to get necessities.
- You get free wi-fi which is very critical given the 21st century.
- They clean your room everyday without question. My towels were always replaced and bed always made.
- The free breakfast every morning is light (bread, croissonts, cereal, fruit) but is good and never had stale food or gross sitting areas. The staff really cleans up.
- The air conditioning and heating works very well. Temperatures can go from 18 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius.
- Neighborhood is clean and safe. Note that you are next to various other hotels and youth hostels. The neighborhood is made for tourists and can get loud, particularly on the weekends.
- There is someone at the hotel desk 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.

Cons:
- Your room will be small. Your bathroom will be small. Many fellow hotel guests could not even fit their suit cases in their hotel room so left them in the hall next to the 24 hour hotel desk. It works, but is obviously nerve racking. If you are a heavy packer then this would be an issue for you.
- The hotel halls are narrow and not ventilated. It will get hot and muggy in the halls. Your room is temperature controlled, so its not a big deal, but a bit odd that they don't open windows.
- The elevator is super small. It fits one person and their suitcase and that's it. I've never seen an elevator so small before.
- The carpet in the rooms and halls is awful. It feels very dirty and looks gross. I don't understand why this carpet isn't removed. I was never comfortable walking on the carpet without shoes.

Overall:
This is a 2 star hotel so keep that in mind when considering value overall. Its small, cramped, not the newest building, nor able to accommodate large suitcases. I give the hotel a high grade due to low expense, location, and the fact that it offers 21st century ammenities for free (wi-fi, air conditioning, and the staff is very good). I would give this hotel a B+ grade.

Room Tip: If you are travelling alone, get the smallest room possible. Saves money and you don't really ne...

Hello tc_sting

Thanks for all the feedback at the Comfort Hyde Park, Especially the generous amount of detail you gave in the feedback.

Concerning your points regardining your negative aspects, I can confirm that the Suitcases left waiting in the public areas next to the 24 hour Reception is mainly for guests that are checking out or are coming back to check out later in the day.

Secondly, your feedback with the carpets. This is the first I have heard about this being an issue as all carpets are recently fitted brand new in 2011. The General Manager will review this and make sure standards are kept to a high level of cleanliness, including the carpets

Many Thanks
