We enjoyed a calm interlude and a welcome cup of coffee amidst beautiful surroundings. The service was efficient, attentive and showed initiative. The garden provides a welcome haven and the hotel staff showed great pride in showing us around and we look forward to our next visit.

Dear PooleAmy,

Thank you very much for your wonderful review of your recent visit to The Goring.

I am delighted that you enjoyed your moment of escapism at The Goring. It is always lovely to hear that people have popped in for a quick drink in our Lounge Bar to escape the hustle and bustle of London.

We all look forward to welcoming you back to The Goring for another stroll around our garden and a few moments of rest and recuperation.

With warmest wishes,

Having heard so much about this Hotel from a friend, who used to make this her base once she had sold her flat, sadly she died last November, so I cannot comment to her, but I expected something special. Yes, the staff were friendly and being taken into the lounge to complete ones paperwork was different, but then the room was tiny. I know that this was a Queen Room and not in the top range, but it would have been better for one person, not two. I am glad that we were not staying too long as there was only a tiny wardrobe. Certainly not a room one would relax in.
Breakfast next day was delicious and sitting in the garden was relaxing, but I do not know that I would recommend or return to.

Room Tip: Hearing from others, I am told that the rooms overlooking the garden are very nice, that is what my...

Dear Kachanovka9,

Thank you very much for your review of your recent stay at The Goring.

We are thrilled that you friend was such an ambassador for the hotel and it is always lovely to welcome friends of old friends. I am only sorry that we did not impress you as much as you had hoped.

I am disappointed that you didn’t feel that you could relax in your room. The Goring has an array of rooms on offer and our Reservations team will be more than happy to discuss them with you to ensure that next time you feel more at home with plenty of space to relax.

We all hope that you will return to The Goring to sample more of our breakfast treats and to enjoy our oasis of our garden.

With kind regards,

Beautiful! What a nice stay we had at the Goring Hotel. Each floor has its own color scheme, yet all floors are identical. The sleep was great and each room has a friend to rest your feet on after long day out! The staff were fantastic and the service was superb! Daily breakfast out side in the back yard was comforting and very soothing. The landscape is very pretty all set on a very quiet street, still very close to all transportation, the "Tube" is not far away. Close to grocery store, pubs, food and shopping. Even walking distance to visit the changing of the guard! Would stay again if I travel back to London.

Room Tip: Rooms are cosy but still roomy and very comfortable. Hotel, is on a quiet street, so no noise to bot...

I am delighted that you had a peaceful time with us from breakfast overlooking the garden to resting your feet on one of our friendly sheep after a day visiting the sights of London. The Goring is a truly exceptional hotel if you are looking for a smaller, more intimate stay in London. My husband and I stayed for four nights after our wedding while on our "mini-moon" in London in late July. The staff was beyond courteous and when they found out we had just married went out of their way to congratulate us and make us feel special. We enjoyed two dinners while staying at the hotel; one our first night in our exhausted "post wedding" haze and another with friends. Both meals were excellent and the service was top notch! We also enjoyed high tea on a gorgeous day on the terrace. It really doesn't get much better! The tea is truly a treat and if you are able, a must while staying there. We found The Goring to be a home away from home in London, and we look forward to many visits on our future trips.

Room Tip: We had a garden facing room and it was lovely and so quiet for being in the heart of London.

Dear babsa507,

Thank you very much for your wonderful review of your recent mini-moon at The Goring.

We were thrilled to be able to play such a special part in your celebrations and are thrilled that we became a home away from home for you.

I am delighted that you enjoyed your dinners in our Dining Room and were also able to sample the treats we serve for Afternoon Tea. I have to say that afternoon tea overlooking our garden is such a pleasant way to spend the afternoon. It is so peaceful that it seems impossible that you only moments away the hustle and bustle of London.

We hope that you will be back to see us again before too long to celebrate one of your anniversaries or just to return to your new London home.

With warmest wishes,

Family owned and run -- and you can tell. A smiling welcome from everyone from the doorman to the chambermaids, Tea in the lounge is a pleasure -- though you may have to wait, The light, bright dining room is a joy -- for lunch especially (and the hors d'oeuvres trolley is memorable).

We stayed at the Goring frequently at a time when we didn't have a London flat, and every now and then go again, just for the comfort and the looking after.

The Goring is very a nice hotel, the staff that we met whilst we were staying there were without exception very pleasant and efficient. The doormen are great, one of whom even went to the trouble to run 300 yards to the end of the road to hail us a taxi, and then rode back to the hotel in it so that he could help us into it. The reception staff, and the waiting staff in the restaurant were very friendly and pleasant. The room was very comfortable with a stylish marble bathroom and a black roll top bath. A drink in the bar area in the evening was a lovely way of spending some time and of course they do have a terrace at the rear of the hotel overlooking the large rear garden. The dining room is large, light and stylish with well placed tables. We were referred to by our name by the staff during our stay. This is the only top class hotel I have not stayed at in London and it compares very favourably indeed with any of the others. I would recommend it to anyone, particularly if you prefer a slightly smaller more intimate hotel, it seemed to have a lovely calming atmosphere. The staff seemed to enjoy working there which I think is very important because this is reflected in the guests experience.

What a curious mix of amazing and average this turned out to be! But mostly amazing. I will return, but for drinks and bar snacks.

Lovely environment and fantastic food and service. I had a lovely birthday afternoon tea, and the cake with candle was a nice touch. the cocktails were lovely.

However, I am unsure why this was voted the best afternoon tea in London in 2013. There were excellent elements to the experience, but they didn't all gel into the perfect Afternoon Tea.

For instance the tea was a little strong although a fresh pot was brought asap once this was pointed out. The cold water we asked for never arrived.

The scones were perhaps the best I have ever had - delicious, light and fluffy.

The sandwiches also a mixed bag - the smoked salmon was divine. The coronation chicken and egg mayo - were just to bland and over reliant on mayonnaise for their flavour. A healthy dose of seasoning required for both. I also requested some non mayo sandwiches for one of the guests - these were an interesting mix and included a curried cauliflower one - a tad random! I also would have liked a simple roast ham or gammon and english mustard option instead of the plain cucumber. I also noticed the several of the sandwich fingers had some crust on still - a little gripe, but at this end of the market it is all about perfection.

The canapes with the drinks were amazing! The cocktails amazing. The champagne amazing. The service and attention was generally pretty good.

We were so full after the cocktails and sandwiches that the whole pastry and cake level wasn't even touched, we took this home in a doggy bag to enjoy later.

I would recommend this as a venue for a special afternoon tea. But if you wish for the quintessential London Afternoon tea experience you simply cannot beat the Palm Court at the Ritz.

Worthy of the price and a good experience, I would say a 9/10 overall.

Dear Benjamin S,

Thank you very much for your review of your recent celebratory afternoon tea at The Goring.

I am delighted that you had a lovely birthday afternoon tea accompanied by cocktails, a surprise cake and fantastic service. Ian our Pastry Chef is a master at scones and I have to agree you would have to try hard to discover any to match his. I am just sorry that you didn’t have enough room to taste all of his pastries until you had returned home – they certainly shouldn’t be missed.

We all look forward to welcoming you back to The Goring before too long for another cocktail and a selection of delectable bar snacks.
