“50th Wedding Anniversary - The Golden Age of Travel”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

A wonderful day out, a gift from our children. From the moment we boarded the British Pullman, we received excellent service and the 5 course lunch was superb. Travelling through the Kent countryside, we stopped at Whitstable for champagne and oysters and were serenaded by a jazz band. A day to remember.

“Orient express - day trip to York”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

We took a trip to York on Friday 11/10/13 to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

When we booked, the estimated timing was 8.30 am from Victoria. The final timing was 7.35 am. This meant that we had to stay overnight in Victoria on Thursday evening which was somewhat inconvenient but not too bad really.

When we arrived on platform 2 on Friday morning and we saw the train, all we could say was Wow! ...... then we started off with a Bellini . In fact , I had two! This was at 7.45 am. It was food all the way to York and how delicious was that.

Orient Express supplied a train buff ( I think his name was Phil). He was so knowledgable and told us all the lines that the train would travel just to get out of London. For us , that was so interesting as we know a bit about the London tube lines and we wanted to know how the train interacted with the tube and national rail lines.

York is a lovely city. We had been there a couple of times so we just wandered around to reacquaint ourselves with the city.

We returned to the train at 4.30 pm and started off with a glass of champagne together with canapes. Then we got to the serious stuff - dinner! This was five courses with different wines with each course. Yes - it was delicious. How the chef can cook the food in the minuscule kitchen is completely beyond us.

We must add our compliments to the staff especially Mitchell. What a humorous man. We were so amused at his stories . Another waiter had a very dry sense of humour and made a real joke about carrots and tunnels (see in the dark!!)

Would we go again - oh yes! Venice is now on the agenda.

“my 50th birthday treat”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

I was very much looking forward to this day out, especially as the journey was through Kent, the county I grew up in. The train was beautiful and the staff were attentive, but the wine and champagne served were not as chilled as they should have been.

The food was lovely, but the service could have been a bit slower,I have had better in fine dining restaurants around the world.

As the day trip was rather alot of money and the wine/champagne did not meet my expectations. I expected perfection form the Orient express.

Will not be doing this again.

“Fantastic Day”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

What a great experience! Was a present from family for my 60th and had a fantastic time with my wife. Toured the Kentish countryside and coastal towns with a stop off at Whitstable where a jazz band played and oysters served up. I'm not a champagne/wine drinker so was able to substitute with their Pullmans bitter - nice pint.
The staff were great and could not do enough to make it a great day for all. Virtually all passengers were celebrating something personal and was really interesting chatting to them. We were in Ibis coach which was the oldest and most ornate. You are able to tour all coaches after the meal has been served if you wish.
Thoroughly enjoy the whole day and would live to repeat the experience. Recommend definately.
