“A great spot for those fans of the famous literary Detective”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2010

We found this museum on a walk down Baker Steet after we had visited Abbey Road.

There was a man in an old style Bobby uniform outside. A wonderful museum for those interested in all things "Doyle". We enjoyed our visit.

“Everything the Sherlock Holmes fan could hope for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2010

The Sherlock Holmes Museum was fantastic. This was the first thing we did in London. It has a large collection of items from the stories. If you're not a fan of Sherlock Holmes, or haven't read any of the stories, most of the "artifacts" won't make a lot of sense but I would still recommend it. The gift shop was great. There was more Sherlock memorabilia than I've ever seen in one room. It takes less than an hour to see the exhibits and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting London.

“Some Elementary Investigation is Required!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

Although you have to pay to get in, the price is still probably the lowest for any paid exhibition in London. Also, they receive little funding (if any) and the money goes towards preserving and improving the museum exhibits.
There are three floors of exhibits. One floor is made to look like the famous study and rooms of Holmes and Watson. Here you can meet a delightful man playing Dr. Watson. While some exhibits are in glass cases, most other things are not and visitors are welcome to sit in (supposedly) Holmes' chair and wear a deerstalker for photos, etc.
In some ways you need to be a die hard fan of the stories by Conan Doyle to grasp the relevance of some of the period piece exhibits that have been collected by the museum to portray the boarding house rooms of Holmes; but even if you're not it's Victoriana with historical value for the period being shown. There is so much to see that it's best to take your time or you'll miss a lot of the detail. So investigate!

“It depends on what you're looking for.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2010

I liked the museum. It's not a spectacular thing, bit it has nice things to it. The museum shop is nice too, but a bit pricey, as is the museum, considering what is offered.
Still, if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan, and even if you are not, you get to take nice pictures, and the gentleman playing Dr. Watson is extremely nice.

“Elementary!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2010

Yes, this is a must see for all Holmes addicts.
Located at the famous address, between Marlebone & Park Rd. Close to Madame
Tussauds and Regent's Park.
Three levels of interesting Sherlock tidbits, and items for sale.
You can even take a photo at the door with "the" hat.
Worth a stop.
Cheers.
