We have a tradition of enjoying a family Christmas Eve breakfast at Borough Market each year and after we had eaten we had a stroll around the area. We came upon The Clink by chance and, although an unusual location for Christmas, we ventured in.

Overall it worked for us - it was fairly quiet, as you might expect, but the exhibits provided some interesting information and we were able to try out a few of the torture items without being hurried. We had no tour guide so set our own pace. All in all about 90 minutes was spent inside.

This is a great and interesting museum. I recently accompanied a group of students who enjoyed the visit and learning but sadly we were made to feel very uncomfortable by the rude tour guide. She seemed angry we had arrived and had two groups she would have to show round in half the time. We had, in fact, contacted in advance to book the two groups and arrange the time slots but this had clearly not been communicated to the guide. She began the tour by being rude and off hand with our students who, fortunately, were polite and respectful in the face of such negativity.
After about ten minutes into the visit the lady became more positive and seemed to enjoy passing on her knowledge which in fact was good. It is shame this was not the case throughout as it would have made the visit much better. It would have been good to have more time to look around and read the information and look more closely at the artefacts but it was all a little rushed.
I would recommend this for the interesting location, the dark story and the artefacts but think the tours could be improved.

We had meant to go to the London Dungeon but when the wait there was 2 hours to get through the door, we walked on down the river side to see the "Clink Prison Museum". Cheaper and no queue to get in. We were able to use 2 for 1 discount tickets from Southwest Trains without any problem.

The Museum is small and dark. We went at dusk so it was pretty atmospheric. There are exhibits to pick up and a lot of reading to do. They have tried to make it more interesting for little ones by setting out a children's trail to look for things. However, I don't think this is really for younger kids as you do really need to read to be able to understand this (as there is no guided tour). It tells the story of crime and punishment in England from Elizabethan times. Pretty harrowing stuff it was too!

It is not an "attraction" with people jumping out at you the way London Dungeon is, but contains real historical fact and makes it pretty clear what happened to the poor, those of the wrong religion or involved in political intrigue....and it wasn't nice, or humane.

We went as a group from Adults, university students and secondary students and everyone thought it was interesting and learned something.

(No room for prams, no public bathrooms, cafe, but there are amenities in local businesses outside like Starbucks, etc.

We visited this museum as we got the two for one tickets from traveling in by train, had we paid full price we would have been really disappointed.
The museum is really a mini attempting to copy some of what makes the London dungeon successful without the actors.
Considering this was mostly a debtors prison and would not have had all the methods of shackling people and torturing them.
It is hard to support this attraction, but it definitely has a massive place in British History. Must be very hard for the owners to find a sensible and profitable way to attract people.

We encountered this as we were walking by on a Harry Potter tour. It looked simply fascinating and we couldn't help but go back after the tour to visit the museum and learn all of its rich history. It isn't expensive at only 7.50 which is much much cheaper than most tours and well worth the cheap price tag. It is even suitable for children.

Also, it is in a great location with beautiful pubs, restaurants and markets all around it.
