The buildings around Parliament Square are magnificent but all the traffic, road signs and street furniture detract from the experience.

Mandela, Lincoln, Disraeli, Smuts and a fabulous Churchill (& others) - this is the best collection of statues in any square in London - or possibly the World. When I visited last week, I was disappointed to see that the square is largely fenced off and there are still a couple of idiotic protesters on the Parliament side. With the Houses of Parliament on one side, Supreme Court on another side and Westminster Cathedral on another, there is plenty to see and I suspect many often pass right by the Square itself, but take a look at the statues - they are superb.

Winston Churchill's head is reported to be heated to keep the pigeons off!! I don't know why a Nelson Mandella statue is there tho.
Horseguards parade which is not far will be home to the beach volleyball during the Olympics

Beautiful building outside; however, inside wasn't impressive enough to match the outside
