Owner description: This fascinating Museum, located within the impressive walls of the Bank of England, tells the history of the Bank from its foundation in 1694 to the present day. Its unique collections of coins, banknotes and artefacts are supplemented by audio-visual and interactive displays. Visitors can even handle a real gold bar! Exciting new displays and exhibits have been added to the permanent galleries following a period of renovation.

This is a very interesting museum if you are interested in money (and who isn't?) It's free to enter and there are toilets and a small gift shop but no refreshments here. Plenty of information on the history of the Bank of England and bank notes and gold. There are a couple of information films around the museum and some hands-on activities as well. Staff are friendly and helpful. You can even touch a gold bar! A few minutes walk from Bank underground station.

As both my husband and I had careers in Banking, we thought this might be interesting. There is loads of factual history about how and why the Bank of England was created and it's expansion on Threadneedle St. The old notes and coins bring back lots of memories. We had great fun working out the combination of the little safe and opening it up - simple things! Definately worth an hour of your time and entry is free.

This was an hour well spent. The displays covered the history and construction of the Bank premises and the history of money with good examples of money through the ages. For those who want a free trip in London this is one to add to your list.

we all use money on a day to day basis but have you ever thought how it is made and how forgeries are stopped , wonder no more . this has a great history and shows some old fakes . there is a big bar of gold there and it tells you its value on the day . its a free museum and you will learn a lot

We were a group of 34 adults visiting this interesting museum for the first time. We were entertained by an amusing and informative presentation lasting 45 minutes which covered the history of this important institution and how the decisions taken by the Board impact on all our lives. The displays were fascinating coins & bank notes thru the ages. The gold bar which we were invited to lift (amazingly heavy!) Cartoons, silverware & much more. We spent a couple of hours in all and found some unusual items in the small gift shop. Toilets are provided. A good place to visit if you have a couple of hours to spare in the City. Not really suitable for families with very young children.
